My experience with the slightly faster 7625 with 1¼oz Mild (Not low) pressure loads in 12ga would tend to make me think 4756 in a light load in 10ga would be extremely "IFFY" in any weather one is likely to be hunting waterfowl in.

Miller,

Seem to recall from earlier threads that one of the nitro powders pretty much duplicates black powder. If that is so, would that work for cold weather waterfowling?

Tim; Black powder & nitro powders are two entirely different items. It is true that pressure is pressure & cares not how produced. the other side though is that black powder burns about as well unconfined as confined. nitro powders are "Slowed" down by either grain size or retardant coatinngs or both. Powders designed to "Burn slow" most often do not have real good "Low Pressure" burn characteristics. They are especially designed to burn slow under normal conditions with heavy loads applied. You could load a ½oz load in a 10ga with FG black & it would burn & expell the shot out the bbl. Try an equivelent charge of something like Blue Dot & you would most likely have the charge stuck just ahead of the chamber. Alliant lists loads (at least they did, haven't checked their very latest guides) of less than 7k psi "Only" in loads specifically listed as "Target" loads & adds a disclaimer that they may not perform well at low temps. Unfortunately all powder makers aren't as honest.

Rich: My experience in the duck blind has been like yours. I've been shocked at a couple of high-flyers I've stoned with my long-barreled G Grade 10, using Bismuth short #5's. Is it the Full and Fuller chokes, the weight and balance, or simply the mojo that the boys in Syracuse built into the gun during those magical weeks in 1906? Regardless, I've had few shots more satisfying, and the old girl obviously still enjoys a good romp! TT

colbysmom: Welcome to our chatroom. You'll get the help you're looking for here. If you post your question again, using the "New Topic" button, it will stand out by itself and get a lot more notice (and answers). The way you've done it here, your question will get lost in this string about another topic, and get very little play. Good luck! TT
