Grin of salt boys!

I've been busy with real-life not the virtual stuff since Thursday and I only have a few minutes to scribble this down before I’m out the door again…

I had to pick up the head munchkin from college on Thursday (7 hours of drive time!)…back just in time to see my sons Lacrosse game that eve (I was tired!). Saturday was at a 50th wedding anniversary for my aunt an uncle who are pretty cool people (3 hour drive time) ....I had to escort my mom and my aunt who are both widows, not in great shape and just a tad nutty (yet loveable). They were happy for my uncle who happens to be my mother’s twin brother but you could tell they were a bit sad too.

Today; I get to be the fill in coach for my daughter’s basketball league. While my wife is taking my son to visit a friend’s dad in the hospital then she has to take the oldest to get some new duds for the great summer job she landed. My other boy is being dropped off to play in the marching band competition/parade in Henrietta which we are forced to miss….I was supposed to be the grill master until the B-ball thing came up.

Needles to say with all this going on I really can’t elevate the HJ thing to any priority level. Let’s face it he’s pretty set in his ways and nothing I could possibly do will change that. I also believe he should be able to express him self freely on the BBS as you all have the option of NOT reading his posts. If he crosses MY line I will reprimand him and then if he does it again I’ll shut him off for a week like before.

The funny part is that often I do find him both annoying and entertaining concurrently. I also allow him the latitude I would give any of you so if nothing else you should be happy to speak your mind on the BBS....

Hope to chime in again late this eve…till then……RELAX!

I'm not quite sure what HoJo has said to stir up such a discussion ,as I long ago blocked all his post/comments . That being said, why not do as I did & avoid his juvenile blather by blocking his post. There is an obnoxious teenager in our social group --- we dealt with him by ignoring him & his comments. Eventially, getting no reaction, he seemed to just disappear. Since regarding HoJo as such an ill mannered child, I am no longer privy to anything he says due to his being blocked. qhat a relief.

Dave, watch out! Filling in for the coach can be dangerous. I filled in for my son's 7th grade football coach when he went on his honeymoon. Next thing I new, I was THE coach. And then I coach for 6 more years and up to the Friday night game. So be carefull.

Well said and thats what makes this still a great board Dave.You do a excellent job Thank You !!No need to have the "inmates run the asylum" and no one here could make it run better

Having been blocked from another (un-named) website by latter-day Puritans who dwell excessively in political correctness, I find this site a breath of fresh air, so long as the mindless and meaningless jabs don't get personal. This particular thread, however, is a good example of the trite quibbles that can engage one's interest to the exclusion of greater and more important matters in re: double guns.

As to the other website, the constant "disappearing" of threads was often a topic that, itself, also disappeared after a chiding by the master of political correctness and "speak-no-evil" who, himself, disappeared from the BOD, thus proving his "hall monitor" efforts to be thankless.

Yet I see this hall-monitoring type of censorship rear its ugly head here sometimes and, thankfully, Dave Weber has a policy of letting things run their course. Rest assured that this thread would have long since disappeared on certain other websites. In HAM radio terms, these masters of political correctness are called "Deputy Dogs" who troll the frequencies breaking in with their comments, much to the distraction and dislike of the real players.

One way to monitor the one-liners would be to require that all posts be at least two paragraphs, in complete sentences, and correctly punctuated. But why bother? You can personally, and quite simply block the non-contributors without having Dave take up one side or the other, thus giving importance to an otherwise trite issue.

Some mindless non-contributors have no original thoughts and only respond to the posts of others, be it one-line zingers or questions as to the "rules" of "allowable" expression of free speech in the micro-cyberspace occupied by this very site, as if it's zero-sum, and one man's worthless opinion somehow cuts into another man's profound insight into the meaning of life in-so-far as double guns are concerned. I'm not the idiOts that can't follow a simple set of rules in the for sale section and I didn't start this tirade that's beem orchestrated by the school marms.

Funny you mention that....I'd like to see posters be allowed no more than two sentences or 50 words per post, whichever comes first.

Since I owe you a second paragraph, I'll concede without further discourse that you are one of the posters who springs to mind. Hope my punctuation passes muster.
