My Parker magnum 10 gauge has a void carved in the stock that's full of shot and covered over with some kind of old glue. It's only on a #3 frame and kicks pretty hard with 3 1/2 inch shells, I'm sure somebody did it to ease the recoil.
I know several guys that have found hunting license's in gunstocks but I never did though I keep looking.

Destry, tell me what year hunting license you want in the butt of a gun I may sell you. I'll do my best to put it there. Maybe I'll wrap it up in a $1 bill.

How about an 1896 Illinois Non-Resident inside the stock of that gun we've discussed on a couple of occasions recently.

P.S. I just added 12 boxes of 2 7/8 shells to the horde that will be inherited with my 10 gauges.

I posted this in a similar topic in Oct. 2006:
Years ago my dad gave me his old Rem. M-10 pumpgun, which his father had given him. A few years later I removed the buttplate and found a 1918 Minnesota hunting license, signed by my grandfather about a week before my dad was born. This was a pretty special find for me. I later gave the old M-10 to my brother, but kept the old license in my hunting photo-journal, next to the SD license my dad bought and signed on our last pheasant hunting trip together in Nov.'85, about 2 weeks before he died.

Small world Vini! I was in back room when sales person brought gun out for you. If you decide to part with it down the line I might be interested....was wondering if it would be a good 2nd barrel donor for my "new" 3E, never had time to check it over good. Is tight gun with crisp triggers though, hope you enjoy it.
Mine is very light as well, have been really digging for some improvised 3/4oz loads for it, have some ideas if you are interested.
Best, Mark My old Flues is a POS incapable of donating much. The new one is too nice to cut up. Regardless, the barrels and forends on the two are not the same and not interchangeable. The new one's barrels also weigh a half lb. more than the '09. The one I bought is in perfect mechanical condition. I cleaned the bores when I got home and they are perfect. What looked like light pitting ahead of the chambers after your co-worker ran a rod through it cleaned up fine. The only issue on the gun other than some handling marks was the 1" taken off the stock to install the pad. With a new pad it'll be good to go. That gun was there for a while but it was listed over $1000 ($1300? it think) which was a bit much. I've bought four guns from Hammond in the last year and they've all been good deals (IMO) that were way over priced initially but got reasonable after a few months. I did pick up a very nice $300 Husky 17 a couple months ago from that pile of %&$*(#@ they bought from Simpson. Other than that your store has really thinned down the SxS double gun selection. Is that a permanent change or the current economic climate?

Glad to hear things look good! The double situation is "fluid" aside from the big load we got from Sweden...they were an anomaly as far as doubles go. We just do not see many.
Best, Mark

Mark - Let me know if you get anything good in the gun room!!!
This one will look very nice with a new period pad and the action cleaned up. The cc are very nice but the oxidized and cracked oil/varnish applied over it spoils the show.

Years ago, bought a Flues 16, removed the buttplate and a piece of paper with a man's name and address from Duluth,Mn. Obviously no zip. Looked up all the folks with the last name, only a few to contact. Second call found the mans grandson, Grandpa had been dead for many years. Grand Son claims to have remembered the gun and said his Grandpa loved to hunt. Another Baker 16 had a wad of stick matches wrapped in waxed paper. Lots of pad changes are evident in the guns I buy. Also, lots of drilled holes for weight loss and some with added lead. Randy

A friend in Southern Illinois once found an early license in the stock of a belgian hammer 10 gauge. The last name was odd so he checked the phone book and there were two folks in the same town as on the license with that same name. He rang one of them up and it was the great grandson of the license holder who said the other person with the name was his brother. They were both gun owners and hunters but when my friend offered to sell them the gun (cheap) he said they wouldn't want it because you couldn't shoot it. Lord please let somebody call me with my great grandfathers 36 inch 16 gauge single shot with his license in the stock, I won't tell them I won't give $200 because "you can't shoot it"......

I just sold a Remington 31. I had put for me a spare firing pin and spring in the butt cavity. I told the new owner. When I bought the gun it had a magazine dowel and a broken closepin in the magazine. The broken clothespin was discarded.
