I just returned from the Side x Side Saturday. It was my first time there. Didn't shoot, but had a wonderful time. I did meet a couple of clients there as well as Mr. Ken Hurst. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me Mr. Hurst, and giving me some of your hard earned wisdom. I will put it to good use. Thank you!

Just back from the Southern. I, too, had a great time. My shooting was more up and down than usual, but the course was fun and the company was great. Spun a bunch of guns for MOI and had a couple of great discussions on handling. The only issues I saw were some unusually hot weather and a few jam-ups in the shooter flow. Attendance seemed high and the tents were well stocked with vendors. Seemed to be a lot of commerce going down. The hot weather brought out safari clothing and some wonderful adaptations of traditional shooting attire. I beleive I heard that LC prevailed over Parker this year.

All good fun. My thanks to Mr. Kempfer for another great shoot.

I went to the Southern Saturday afternoon. I never saw so many Purdeys in one place. It seems that everyone's table held some. Prices on quality doubles seemed pretty high on the average. Barbeque was pretty good. Lots of high quality vendors although I missed seeing the Fausti sisters.

Best Regards, George

I went to the Southern to pick up the Army & Navy hammer gun I had purchased earlier from the web site of Toby Barclay of Heritage Guns. I'm very happy with it and it's comforting to know that it has been thoroughly checked and anything wrong was fixed. I only shot the practice five stand with a box of shells I bought from the RST people. I forgot to cock the hammers on the first station but after that I did fine. Yes, it was hot but it was a great event. Nice location in the woods. Good turn-out. Lots of lovely doubles to admire. It was long trip from Southern California to North Carolina just to pick up a gun but it was worth it. I enjoyed the BBQ and the double rifle shooting. I also gave Toby my other vintage English double to take back to England for his restoration service.

Glad to have met you in person Mr./ Dan, I enjoyed our talk. Hope all goes well with you in your future work & feel it will. I'm always available if you need help. As usual, the Southern was a roaring success and I look forward to next year. If those of you who didn't attend can make it next year, you'll find yourself hooked for life !

This event has become a reunion of a bunch of us from Alabama to Ontario. As always, it was great to see everybody again. I didn't shoot, just visited and lurked about. Yes, it was hot, especially for this time of the year. High about 90 all three days. It seemed like fewer cars were parked on the road, but I'm told Bill K had arranged for more parking on the grounds. After cheering for the Elsie team on Saturday, a bunch of us gathered for our annual dinner with Walt Snyder in tow. We missed having three guys who were no shows, but they were more than amply replaced by Chick Candler and his daughters (the secret weapons). Sorry guys, you know who you are and you don't compare. Overall, another great event with cooperative weather, friendly competition, lots of eye candy, and reunions of friends.

Except maybe a picture of Lt. Gen Lewis B. Puller- the ONLY Marine to ever be awarded FIVE Navy Crosses. Semper Fi- Do Or Die!! Like the "Elsie Ladies" in old Rev 'em Up Doc's foto thing-Sorta makes me wonder what the Five Bros. Hunter's wives looked like- Glad to see the "Smithians" trimmed the Parker laddies just a bit- sideburns and sidelocks will win every time, hand runnin!! How was the Bluegrass music? Deep River N.C.- shuffle over to Deep Gap N.C. and check out the Doc Watson "Merle Fest" sometime- fine pickin' indeed.
