VERY NICE Greg,
I'n not much of a fan of unstained maple but your stock achitecture is lovely.
Although I don't believe I've ever seen one, years ago C. Sharps Arms advertised new threaded octagon Ruger #3 barrels in .38, .40, and .45 caliber. Always thought it would be a good way to go and even did some drawings, but never had the project to go along with.

There wasn't a No. 2, but I can't remember why. Seem to remember there was story about why, but the details(if there were any) have left me.

Wasn't Ruger going to make a Creedmoor style rifle and call it the #2? I know they made one Creedmoor style rifle and it was on the cover of the Gun Digest in 1968 or 69 and they made some commemorative rifles for Lyman also.Bill Ruger was not afraid to go with some of his pet ideas regardless of what the market might be saying.

The Ruger would indeed be a very nice action to build a dedicated creedmoor rifle on - the right size and proportions for it. I'm still tempted to tear down my own #1, but it seems a shame to to use a perfectly good and accurate rifle for the job, so I keep postponing it till the barrel is finally shot out (which will take quite a while at the rate I am shooting it...).
Unfortunately, used #1's are pretty rare and expensive over here. :-(

Does anyone have a ballpark figure on what it will cost to have the action and lever shaped like the Helgeland gun I posted? Also who would you recommend to do the work? Thanks, JB

J.B., This isn't a smart-ass answer.
First you'd have to find somebody capable and willing to do the work, then you would have to ask them. Some that are capable, aren't willing (I'm too busy). Some that are willing aren't capable.

I am pretty handy and worked in a body shop doing custom work all through high school. We had a no Bondo policy in the shop so it was all hammer and file work. Maybe I will have a go at it myself, time will tell if I end up with a #3 paperweight. Who knows maybe I will be the next SDH!!  Best-JB
