Monty:
The 9.3X74R remains very popular in Europe and is primarily used there for driven boar. It's a .366" 285 grain bullet at 2350 fps in factory ammo. In a double rifle it's just fine for ordinary North American game. I have a number of friends that use it for wild hog, deer, bear, elk, etc. One friend also used his in Africa for both plains and heavy dangerous game, having taken giraffe, buffalo, and elephant with it. Being identical in performance to the .375 Flanged Magnum, it's a flexible and desirable chambering for a general purpose double rifle.
The Genschow's I've handled have been of sound quality. If it's a double in good shape, that price sounds way low.
In terms of recoil, if you're accustomed to an ordinary British 12 bore game gun, the 9.3 shouldn't bother you.

if you're willing to acknowledge limited availability of quality ammo it's good overall caliber for heavier na game at short to medium ranges. strum & ruger makes sweet-handling ss in this caliber. for heavier afro game they offer 450/400rne. ps. with lightest comercial load having 232gr slug i would say its big game only caliber.

It is a single, double, a combo? It sounds really cheap and is there any chance a 9.3X72R was bored out to 9.3X74R? What do the proofmarks tell you. Anyway, 9.3X74R is a often maligned and mostly misunderstood round. As noted above it will neutralized anything on the planet but can also be used on predators. Gustav Genschow, also GECO, had factories in Durlach, Hachenburg and a few other spots with headquarters in Berlin and retail outlets in Hamburg, Hamm, Koln, Suhl, Wien, and a few others. The longarm may have "GECO" or the GECO trademark.
Kind Regards,

That's silly. Norma and S&B are readily available here, and RWS can be had. Hornady also loads it, and their excellent 9.3X74R brass and bullets are available to the handloader. A 9.3X74R is easy to feed.

What he said... [ A 9.3X74R is easy to feed. Also, they can be very accurate, and are quite nice to shoot - even with the heavy game loads. Cheers Tinker

At one time there was a big drilling contingent/following around the Mobile area and SE Mississippi to hunt turkeys. I can't say that they used 9.3X74R on ole Tom but the number of those guys is dwindling and their heirs and assigns are liquidating their "stuff". It may have some age on it but it still shoots fine.
