I found a nice shotgun by the Three Barrel Gun Co that was a deluxe grade and in good shape. By this I mean it had never been messed with,no reblue,no refinish, good wood no oil soaking. Everything was there to make it into a nice gun. According to the records it was just as shipped from the factory except for wrong recoil pad. I purchased the correct pad and mounted it. I took it to my local Firearms dealer and asked their inhouse gunsmith to fit it for me. We had a dicussion that lasted 25 minutes. I left him the stock mounted on the action. This is nationally know store. They specialise in high grade guns. People trade with them from all over the country. They know nice guns. I went back yesterday after waiting 5 weeks to pick up my stock. The gunsmith was off, one of the counter men brought it out to me. It look fine, the fit and finish was just what I expected. I turned it over and looked up at the area above the opening lever. At the top right where the stock meets the frame a plug was missing from the stock. An area the diameter of a cherry was gone. You could see fresh broken grain.
I almost threw up. I've never had this happen to me before. The counter man said "man, I don't guess it was like that when you bought it in was it?" I really could not speak, I just turned and left. I don't know what to do, or how to handle it. I don't even know if they have the missing wood. I could use some advice. What's the proper way to handle this? What should I do? What should they do?
