Check out this fantastic Guyot hammergun (caution, if hammerguns make you swoon, sit down first): http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=126740543It's marked Paris on the bbls, but the proof marks are all English. So who made it? That stock is Euro, not British. But the rest of the gun sure looks limey to me. The finish on the bbl looks black/white, though. Again, that's Euro. I've been interested in Guyot shotguns for a while. This is the first hammergun I've seen by N. Guyot. Does any know any more about N. Guyot or any of the other Guyots? Thanks OWD

Both of those Guyot sidelocks are much later guns - I'd say from between the wars. Drake has the first one, Safari Outfitters has the second. I've seen both of them and they are fantastic guns.
From what I could tell, they were both made in either France or Belgium.
Drake wants $15,000 for his. That's a great price for new, best-quality gun.

And it was used by the London proof house as preliminary proof from 1856 to 1954 I believe.

What does that mean Raimey? I don't find that mark on my (apparently incomplete) list of British marks. Is it the same mark as this? Thanks.

One in the same and on early joined tubes, especially London proved(London ceased to make tubes circa 1870 I think) ones imported into the Bohemian & Germanic areas, the mark is very low on the flats and is sometimes all but worked to shallow depth as far as the stamp. Steven kindly provided the definition and I think the 1989 rules picked it up again? Just guessing, but your tubes look to have been independently sourced and joined by whatever maker with the mark that high on each tube. To whom do the tubes belong?
Kind Regards,
Raimey rse

BTW: Check out this article from our very own site: http://www.doublegunshop.com/james_flynn_guyot_shotgun_service_031606.htmIt features another Guyot from the same time period as he hammergun. Again, the metal work looks British, the stock looks Euro. Interesting. I think these early Guyots came out of the UK. The later ones that I have seen - boxlocks and hammerless sidelocks - were made in France or Belgium. OWD

This gun is filed up exactly like a bar in wood Purdey of the 1880's; the only difference being the trigger plate extension. The hammers, locks, and fences are Purdey all the way. Just the last 2 didgets of the serial number show on the photos of the bottoms of the barrels. With this entire number, a quick check against Purdey's numbers of the period and their records for that number should be conclusive. Allt he best, Mal
