Can anyone offer personal experience and insight to importing a shotgun for personal use from the UK? Did you import the gun yourself or use an agent? Any recommendations for an agent in the Lake States?

Also, any recommendations for how to export the gun from the UK would be appreciated.

Hadoke's book makes it sound fairly easy, but I have talked with a former importer who gave it up as too complicated and painfull.

I used Bob @ Highwood shotguns. It was painless. Sorry, no contact info for him anymore.

I imported 2 double barrel shotguns from the UK about 5 years ago. Actually I just did the paperwork and used a friends FFL to get the importing done. Please understand that any FFL dealer can use their license to "occasionally" import sporting arms. It wasn't very difficult to do but it did take time; about 6 months as as I remember it.

anyone know the process for a pre 1898 antique as well. the UK dealer reommended that I contact the atf branch at the airport and ask them. just don't want any surprises to pop up.

H&H I import. I've never heard of an ATF branch at an airport. Customs yes. ATF no.

I just called them and they said all I have to do is PROVE that it is a pre 1898 gun and there should be no issues. ( HA HA.......yeah right )

I am assuming that the UK dealer has the proper docs to prove it's an pre 1898 gun to get it out of the UK? I forgot to ask that when I called them.

Mike - how much is yer going rate? the dealer is cheshire gunroom if you have ever had dealings with them.

Jordan that's the exporter that I use. I should have a shipment ready to come over in early June. Cost is my cost + customs charge for your gun + $100.

Jordan: I have used John Farugia, owner of Cheshire Gun Room, on a number of occasions. He has always been fair and efficient. He will determine the age of the gun to be exported as to whether it is considered to be an antique or modern and give the proper printed reference. Whatever you do, do NOT have your guns shipped to Charlotte, NC. The customs guy there is an idiot and will use any ploy possible to delay or void your shipment.
