I know absolutely nothing about LeFevers. Is this an original or did someone make it? 277. * LEFEVER ARMS DOUBLE BARREL RIFLE, Auction: 2009, Spring Firearms Sale, April 29 - 30 .45 x 2.875" caliber, 26.4" barrels with extractors, serial number 11144. Checkered walnut buttstock and forearm. Cocking indicators on side locks. Condition: This is a minty example of an African Cape rifle. It retains ca 100% original case colors, ca 97% barrel blue with only very minor thinning, and excellent highly figured walnut stocks. There is a small chip at the muzzle end of the forearm. It features a fixed rear sight and a flip-up adjustable rear sight. The bores rate excellent. This affordable double rifle has seen very little action. (EST $3000-$4000) I would not describe it as a Cape rifle but a double rifle. http://www.cowanauctions.com/upcoming_dates_view_item.asp?ItemId=67860

never seen such lefever thanks for sharing. in europe couple of shops offer fittin' of rifle tubes to double shotgun frame but it isn't cheap. german actions with purdey double under-bites and x-bolt if most often utilized. well, i have only broken down one lefever into 3 parts are these actions strong enough for reduced rifle load pressures?

I thought the case colors looked strange for 100% original.

SKB, That wasn't done by a cyanide bath, that is the work of the oxy-acetlene torch. Interesting rifle, I would like to see it in the flesh, however. With Uncle Dan, anything is possible. if you notice that the engraving on the rib continues onto the sight base. If an aftermarket rebarrel, it is a good one. Serial numbers look right too. I'd like to see if there is a line where rifle barrels were inserted into a "monoblock".
All the best, Mal

Lefever did make a few double rifles. I handled one that was in the Murice Mudge collection a long while ago.

Keith Kearcher did an article for the DGJ about Lefever double rifles. I do not remember the issue. 2.875" is the case length for the .45-110.

That's the most interesting Lefever mystery I've seen in a long time. My (often fallible) instinct tells me there's no way that gun's "factory," but who cares? I tend to be a "don't screw with nice old guns" kind of guy, but this one is very cool, IMHO. I'm not a good judge of case colors, but the rest of the gun looks to be a professional job, and I bet it's also accurate (once you find your recipe). My guess is someone with more dollars than sense took an E Grade scattergun and turned it into a double rifle, choosing an age-appropriate cartridge while they were at it. The plan was to have the sweetest rifle on the elk hunt, but by the looks of it, he and the gun never made the trip. TT

I am in agreement that it looks like a torch job on a fine old E Grade Uncle Dan with rifled barrelled inserts.I once owned a Colt Hammerless SxS chambered for 45-70-401. I presently own a Fox Sterlingworth 12 gaige x 45-70-401. I believe the auction ad misstates it as a cape gun (shotgun x rifle) when it is actually a shotgun converted to a double rifle.
Just My Humble Opinion......George
