A very good friend has asked if there ever was a double set trigger made comercially for a 1903 Springfield? It seems I have seen a Springfield at one time or another with one but I can't say for sure. Any info would be appreciated.
Many thanks

I believe, either Frank Mittermier or Paul Jaeger, had a double set trigger offered for the Springfield.

Stoeger's '39 reprint shows them, and Hatcher's Notebook shows the Woody trigger for the '27 International team.
Good shooting.

A few were offered them but they never worked out very well. There is not enough room in a 1903 trigger guard for DST. A few folks made SST and IMO Paul Jaeger made one of the best (pre-war). If you will look at the majority of 1903's converted in Germany after the war they used a shotgun trigger guard for DST's.

I think Canjar may have made an ST for the 1903.

Canjar did indeed make a SST for the 1903, and I own a brand new NOS one, complete with the ultra-rare optional sliding tang safety. Have used them in the past with good success, but please be advised that extensive tests have revealed that any set triggers usually (always, in the testing!) cause a small loss of accuracy when shooting from the benchrest. Their use can make offhand or otherwise wobbly shots somewhat easier in the field, but please don't think that you're gonna win any serious benchrest matches.
They're still one of my favorite things, though. Regards, Joe

I wonder if it is technically (or semantically or otherwise) correct to call the Canjar trigger an SST ... In any case I have two for the Krag, it actually took five years from payment to delivery.

Mark, I went to college and had many years of English classes in both grammar and literature. Was going to be an English teacher until I found the pay was a whopping $6000/year, but I digress...At any rate I remember studying the use of 'an' versus 'a' when used immediately preceding a word with either a vowel sound or a consonant sound (respectively) as the first letter. However the usage with an acronym remained unclear, at least to me it did. Do we use the initial sound of the acronym, an ess which would take the 'an' in this case, or do we use the spelling of the word, 'single' or 'set', which would take the 'a' usage? The difference between the spoken and written word with acronyms is still unclear to me.
In any case, I just thought that my Canjar trigger was rare; yours are in a higher category altogether! Regards, Joe

JDS, my question wasn't directed at the grammar but at the construction of the Canjar. It actually has two triggers, the main one and the tiny one that pops out when the main trigger is pushed. Maybe that makes it a DST not a (or an) SST?
