Westley Richards center fire bar in wood guns are wonderful guns, are occasionally found in great condition, and are usually underpriced. There was a really nice Westley bar in wood gun at the Baltimore show. I have seen others lately that I would buy if I were looking for such a thing. When lightly used, they have a very secure action and are usually intelligently stocked. I have had mine for forty years and it is still as good a British hammer gun as I have owned.

Binko

if brand name doesn't matter, check out steve bertrams sight.
he has very nice restored WC Scott I have seen in person, very nice gun.

the restoration costs would be more than he is selling it for.

H&H,

Nice, but it's not a BIW, although this one is, not too good of shape though!

Somethings not right with that Scott...forearm release and pistol grip unlike any Scott I've ever saw. "Decent bores" also scares me...

Binko I wouldn't invest in that Purdey thumb lever...the guy even says it's loose.

Binko, there was a very nice Purdey BIW for sale in the previous Holt's sale ( march 26) The estimated price was 700/800 £ You can control it if you want to see it. It was withdraw at last moment before the sale.

As 8bore said. Westley made many BIWs and they are very nice guns that are underpriced. My first one cost me £150 a few years ago. As LeFusil said made very sure that the wood is in good shape. Cracks in the crab joint are very common and difficult to repair if they are bad.

jOe, you are the Scott man, but I have a Scott hammer-gun with a fore-arm release just like that one, but with a more elaborate engraving pattern. The pistol grip though, does look different from the one pictured on the Bertramco site, which may be a re-stock. The Scott on the Bertram site with the dog on the side-plate is pictured as the 'Australian Special' at page 31 of the W.& C. Scott & Son 1891 catalog.

Actually, my Scott looks a lot like that gun, but with a Swan or long-necked Goose or something on the lock plate instead of the dog. Mine is a little earlier than 1891 though because it has the 'not for ball' mark on the barrel flats...Geo
