Wow. This string is still going??!! Is there really anybody out there (other than the owner) who thinks an antique circa 1890 H&H with damascus barrels is worth nearly as much as a 1930ish H&H proofed for 2-3/4 inch shells? Is there really anybody out there (other than this Lowell character and certain of our elected representatives) who is taking great smug satisfaction from our current economic conditions?

I recall calling out some flaws in his gun (he's been mad at me ever since ).

quite honestly quality of lots of stuff is vastly overrated. some examples include pre-64 winchester bolt rifle, browning superposed, model 12 shotgun,......the samples i looked over were not nearly as good as many folks proclaim. there are some exceptions: holland & holland 'royal', freedom arms big bore revolvers, browning fn 'safari grade' rifle, merkel o/u game gun,.....

Yes, I posted photos and I re-posted new photos, to show you that I had the hinge pin fixed of the VERY slight mar on it, and also to show Jeweler, who was looking for an H&H, what the gun looked like. As far as getting mad at you, JoE, that's not going to happen, I don't get mad at anyone, maybe disappointed for man-kinds sake, but NEVER mad. At that time I had thought about selling it, as I was having some heart issues and I thought I might have to have open heart surgery, and may need some money. However, this was not the case, and I never could bring myself to list it for sale anywhere, which is good, because I now want to keep the gun, as I don't need to sell it and I still love the beauty of this fine antique, which I'm into. I only buy guns that are at least 100 yrs. old NOW, and I consider them more valuable than newer ones...at least to me, and probably a few others like "H&H12 bore". I understand if you don't agree, just understand if I don't agree with you or anyone else for that matter!

PS - Go ahead, take your shots, but this will be my LAST post on this matter!!! Said and done!!! Honest!!!

Binko I like the 100 year old classics too...because I can't afford the newer ones.

Sorry I said anything about your buggered hinge pin screw....most learn from their mistakes when buying these old guns some never admit it.

A while back I got into a Scott Excellentia grade with some hidden issues that I didn't see it first...(but I got it cheap).
Lucky for me with a little cash it will work out and I will have a nice gun with high condition Damascus bores and high condition egraving.
Who knows it might have been worked on by the same jack legg that buggered your hinge pin screw.

Binko,
I was interested in the engraving pattern on your gun. I have one from 1886 with rose and scroll and I wondered if yours had been done in a similar fashion.

PM - See for yourself, but I'd say 80% to 85% rose and scroll.
