Chuck; I'm not 100% certain, but I believe the Spanish use the same system as do the Italians. If so then * = Full, ** = 3/4, *** = 1/2, **** = 1/4. The Italians use CL for cylinder, not sure about the Spanish.

Chuck,
This excerpt from an article by Bill Harriman called "100% Proof". Don't remember where I got it from.
"It is also common for European guns to carry marks that indicate the degree of choke at their muzzles. These are expressed by a series of small asterisks. The larger the number of asterisks, the more open the choke is bored. Table five gives full details of this choke-marking system. In the case of screw-in chokes, small notches on the edge of the choke represent the asterisks. TABLE 5 CHOKE MARKINGS Full * 3/4 ** 1/2 *** 1/4 **** Cylinder ***** This article first appeared in Shooting Times & Country Magazine July 1999"

* = full ** = improved modified *** = modified **** = Improved cylinder ***** = cylinder This is not disagreeing with the above, just put in the terms most commonly used by us "younger" shooters.

Jaime, I'd say "complementary".

Chuck,
I have a Model 30 Ugartechea in 12ga that is **** and **, which is a great quail gun especially if I use the 7/8 oz offered by Federal. I used this shot over Thanksgiving in another double, choked IC and Mod and had good and comfortable results.
Good shooting and enjoy!
