Not in a 40 Knot headwind it won't-my GrandFather always said that 'some folks will try to rob you with a gun, others use a fountain pen' or today, the internet and the Madoff investment op. He wasn't a Sicilian, but he sure would have approved of the similar words of wisdom from a Vito Andolini- "One lawyer can steal more than a 100 men with guns" and didn't old Bernie Madoff graduate from Columbia Law School? Believe he done did dat!!

I guess I would wonder why you are so incensed over the price of guns which you obviously have no intention of purchasing in the first place. The first amendment gives many a-holes the right to confirm the diagnosis to the general public but why feel compelled to do so? The market place will ultimately set the price on these guns so why not follow your mother's great advice to say nothing if you can't say something nice? Perhaps the need to confirm the diagnosis to the world exceeds the need to do what dear old Mom suggested in some cases.

I don’t like to see somebody take an unwarranted hit, so I’ll wade in with my $0.02 worth.

I don’t know Steve Barnett personally and have never bought a gun from him. I did try to buy a Westley Richards single shot from him a year or two ago, and here’s what happened.

Negotiations by phone were most cordial. I dealt with his employee, whose name I have forgotten. I negotiated the price to something I considered reasonable. In our discussions of the condition of this rifle, he cautioned me that the bore might not be what I want. Nevertheless, I decided to try to make the deal work. At that, he suggested I have an inspection period of not three, but ten days, with the right to fire the rifle.

The rifle came, and the bore was dark but seemed to clean up. I took it to the range and tried several loads only to find that accuracy was not to be attained. I cleaned the rifle back up, and let them know I was disappointed with my inspection. There was no argument or resistance to returning the rifle. I shipped it back and got a prompt refund. End of story.

It was an entirely honorable transaction that didn’t work out. I would not hesitate to deal with Steve Barnett again.

I was shocked at Mr. BinkO's post.

I've been to Barnett's shop a few times and did think most of his guns were described pretty accurately on the Internet and fairly priced.

And anyone else who likes Steve Barnett's prices, cause that is what this thread was about, "prices", NOT service!!!

You say Steve Barnett's prices are fair, and then tell me I was way out of line by asking $15K for my H&H Royal Ejector. Well, I'd like to show, [for the newbies on this board cause everyone else already knows], just how FOS you really are. Here's just a couple of comparisons for EVERYONE, to see, copied from his site.

SBFG ID: 8731

Maybe I should go up on mine?

Hi, now my 2c worth, I've delt with Steve Barnett one time and it was a very pleasant experience. He knocked off some on the price and honored my check that I forgot to sign!! It was a personal check and they did not wait for it to clear. They sent the gun off when they got the check. The gun was just as descriped. Would I deal with him again....you bet!

Curl, I bet the man you delt with was Lonnie. Nice guy and a pleasure to talk to.

All the best!!

Greg,

Yes, they are very nice people, and I have talked to Lonnie before, and enjoyed talking to him, but in checking their prices on their site, I will stand behind my assessment of them being way overpriced on their guns. The prices, on items that I checked, were at LEAST 30% over market value, and I doubt they would come off that much, so that still leaves them over-priced...which I re-state is ALL that we are supposed to be talking about, [to be staying on topic], in this thread.

Bob, I am not incensed with the prices or the free market system at all. If I wanted, and I don't, to sell one of the 12 gauge AHE Parkers my GrandFather left me, I can ask $40,000 for it (about double what I have seen 12 gauge AHE's with two triggers go for-Meriden mfg. of course) on various sites and on dealer's lists such as Chadick and Puglisi- you don't have to agree, but as it is my gun, my choice. The free market will tell me I might be crazier than a craphouse rat- or some "Greater Fool Rule Follower" who can't live without such a escopeta might actually pay it- as did Mr. Puglisi with his "Hammer Time" bid for the Czar of Russia's A-1 Parker a few years ago at a James D. Julia site. My old gun dealer and friend Bill Jaqua always advise- never invest in a gun you can't afford to keep-and I believe in that-I sold a beat up but still shootable 12 gauge HE Fox last Fall to a guy who had been pestering me to buy it for 3 years-he paid-willingly-about double what it might bring from again, a look at dealers listings and possibly the over-rated Fijestad Blue Book Of Gun Values-anyway, if I see a car or a double at a high price- IMO-I have the right to comment without being viewed as not "following Mom's advice- the world of e-com and "Me First" has trampled over those words from a long ago age-if you don't believe me, watch a rerun of the ABC John Quinnoes special from last night- 80 people went by a homeless man who had fallen to the sidewalk in broad daylight, the only one who helped was a semi-retarted street lady who lived in a nearby homeless shelter, and is crippled somewhat- she finally got a passing lady to call 911 on her cellphone- that's our rude world of today Bob-I'm sorry I don't like it either-but you don't know me from Adam's off ox- nor I do you- "Judge not, lest yee be judged yourself" ain't bad advice either- but not from "Mom's Cafe" or "Alice's Restaurant" either- RWTF
