Easier to ask an expert than to take off the stocks of two Parker guns and take a peek inside. Any difference in the internal mechanics of the standard Parker and a Trojan (Thanks Dam). Brother and I looked over the external mechanics of the two and seemed to see no difference except in the contour of the frame. Both were #0 frame 16's. Thanks, Randy

Internally the Trojan is the same mechanically as the VH and higher grade Parkers.

Also no rib extension on Trojans, except very early ones.

16 gauge Trojans are made on the #1 frame. Randy's 0 frame Trojan 16 is an extreme rarity.

Also no rib extension on Trojans, except very early ones. Had one of the early ones once. The extension was just a straight non-functional one, no loss in its ommision. Not positive, but don't think they ever put the doll's head of the higher grades on a Trojan.

According to the "The Parker Story" the higher the grade the more the lock parts got polished. Other than that, to quote the Kentucky Fried Chicken commercial, "Parts is Parts".
Best,
Mike

Miller, as always, is correct. Well, almost always.

Eightbore, I stand corrected. After your comment, I called my brother to see what guns we were looking at. His DH is an 0 frame 16 and the Trojan was an 0 frame "20 ga." thus the 0 frame. We swapped the barrels and they easily fit on both frames. I find the Trojan frame unattractive. Has anyone come across a custom Trojan? One that has had the frame altered like they do on the Fox SW's. Thanks for the comments, I always thought Parker created a lower quality gun with different internal configuration. Learn something new every day. I might have looked differently at 16ga. Trojans in the past when looking for a 16 ga. field gun. Randy

I've seen some nicely engraved Trojans but not "factory" done of course. Never saw one with sculpted frame though. I've owned a few Trojans, in fact learned to shoot a sxs with a Trojan back around '60 or '61. I currently own a 1923 Trojan 16 ga. with 26" barrels. It feels and handles like a 0-frame 16. My brother-in-law insists I keep it so he can continue to use it for grouse.
Incidentally, there is a mechanical difference in the Trojan that seperates it from the higher grades and that is the snap-on forend. The higher grades all have the A&D type of latch. Beyond this, all other differences are cosmetic in nature and are specifically cost-saving by design.

Ironically the forend mechanism is said to be functionally superior to the Anson & Deely lever used on letter grade Parkers, according to Babe DelGrego. Babe claims unlike the letter grades you won't find a Trojan with loose barrels.
