when it comes to steel-framed pumps the small-bore ithaca and remington 17 are the best upland guns out there. i have both winchester 12 (1916 vintage) and ithaca (1956 vintage) and handled 20ga Remington 31 and have to say the ithaca is best handling gun.
another good pre-war one was montgomery ward or riverside slide-action by j. stevens arms (proly browning design). kinda ugly but in 20ga a joy to behold.
