Actually I thought that Jerry's comment about the Warbler Wryneck was inspired by the annual reoccurrence of Spring Break, when the local fauna reappear in all their radiant finery. Ahh, the splendid Southern Redbreasted Warblers, the perky little Tomtits, the strut of the proud Flatbellies, and who could forget the siren song of the White-Tailed Sapsucker? My binoculars are fogging...My Bride is calling...I have to stop now.
Regards, Joe

And for you music lovers don't forget the William Tell Overture on the beach. You know, Rump titti rump titti rump titti rump rump rump.

Sorry. Couldn't resist. Just a slave to temptation.

I was at the Gulf Coast of TX for two weeks last spring and never saw a goose of any sort. Had to ask someone ot recognize the miles of grass fields as rice plants.
I envy you the B&W Warbler. It just just below zero last night and we are watching snow buntings and looking for snowy owls. Blackburnians warblers have been identfied seven times in MT, but not by me.

Minnesotans visit with snowmachines (cause it's warmer), but not a sign of bare skin, state-wide.

It'll be 85F here tomorrow according to The Weatherman. I'm wearing shorts today, it's up to 74F. My peach trees blossomed almost 2 weeks ago, about the same time I started running the A/C & fans in the shop. Unfortunately it gets too hot/humid to shoot around Memorial Day and doesn't cool off again until Columbus Day.

I experimented with an old airbrush to spray on the stain instead of wipeing so as to not pull any finish out of the grain.

Worked pretty good. Easy uniform color with no rubbing and the grain stayed filled.

This is an old GAG stock I had that I reshaped the grip, took alot off the nose sides and sides of comb for knife eddge style, made a pancake cheek, shaped the area sides at the top tang, slimmed and shortened the forend like a european sporter.

I let it dry for 24 hrs then rub on some finish, which will bring back out the grain and probably lighten up the color. This one I put more red stain on than I have before. Think I will try some linseed oil with japan dryer "experiment" with this one also

Steve,

You need to come down for the Louisiana Ornithological Society (LOS) Spring meeting. It's usually the third weekend of April and meets on the Louisiana coast, often at Cameron Louisiana. The migrants pause in the cheniere woods after crossing the Gulf and are so tired and hungry that they don't care how many binoculars are aimed at them. You can see as many as a dozen different species in one tree if there is a real "fallout" of migrants. Often lots of Blackburnians.

GSP I've been threatening to try an air brush for years, good idea!

Jerry, thanks for he invite, I'd love to come to Louisiana for the migration experience, but would probably skip the ornithological gathering.

BTW, -10 at day break!
