Their factory info says "not for use in Damascus or twist steel guns" according to the Pinnacle ads.

Daryl, I'm guessing that's likely due to pressure issues rather than pellet hardness. And of course that's something we have to keep in mind, when we're talking nontox loads for our vintage doubles: It's not just the hardness of the pellets, but just like we wouldn't shoot modern American factory loads due to pressure, we also have to make sure these barrel-friendly nontox loads are also OK pressure-wise. That's the nice thing about the Kent Gamebore 2 1/2" TM loads. Or the RST nontox loads. Just wish they didn't cost so darned much.

The box flaps on RST ammo say the same thing yet they're really made with those kinds of guns in mind. It's a liability issue plain and simple.

Larry, if they would publish the pressures accurately, then we could decide. I didn't find the pressures on the website. I would think their statements about suitabilities for Vintage guns would consider pressures, even in a fluid steel gun.

I agree MarketHunter but look at the millions of Model 12s and Auto 5s and Model 37s, just to name a few, that are facing the same situation if this lead ban continues its creep across the country. These small outfits producing this non-toxic shot are just fine but in order for the price to decrease to an acceptable level for the average guy, like me, we need a major player in the market.

Daryl, it'd be nice if ammo makers would give us pressures for their loads because then, as you say, we'd know and could decide for ourselves. But even the Brits don't do that with their shells, except in a very general fashion:
"Please note that these cartridges are suitable for use in: Guns with a chamber length of 2 1/2" or longer, nitro proofed to a service pressure of 3 tons per square inch (850 kg per square km)." That's right off a box of Kent Gamebore Pure Gold 12ga shells, 2 1/2". At least it tells us they don't exceed current CIP service pressure standards.

Major players is what got us into this fix were in...what we need is competition. jOe, Agree, but it seems that the major US gun and ammo makers are interested in nothing new, unless the risk is zero. Since that is never going to be the actual risk of business decisions, they almost never do anything new themselves; vide Remington HD shot. It was only marketed after smaller makers developed it and put it out there. And pet peeve, why doesn't Remington make, in the US, Parkers again? Tony Galazan is making a fortune, making and selling US doubles. WTF??? All they want to do is import junk from Turkey. And sell to the waterfowl crowd. Quailnut

Kent gives pressures---or at least when I call they provide them cheerfully. Isn't that what they're in business for?
