I have a Holland & Holland .500x3" BPE double rifle built in 1881. On the lower rib is the stamp "GP" and a small serial number in the 33000 range also on the rib. I would think that the GP is some maker's name. Is this the case? Also, the rifle has wonderful bores with Holland's SEMI-SMOOTH BORE RIFLING. I read where some express rifles could be special ordered with this rifling, but I have never seen one until now.

Is the GP a stylised, interlocked affair? If so then it would be a London proof mark , GP standing for guardians of proof, or similar.
If it is two plain letters, then it is probably the barrel maker's (or another, related occupation) initials.

The GP is not a proof mark. It is simple stamped letters that are on the bottom rib, not on the barrel flats where the London proof marks are very visible. It also has a serial number on the rib that does not at all match the serial number of the rifle.
