I have a Hunter One trigger, non selective, on a 12 ga. 'Smith.
Is the selector spring required?

There is a screw and the "screw eye", for the broken spring in the trigger plate.
What is the purpose of the spring on a non-selective trigger?
Is there a source for the spring?

Thanks, Jerald Ware

The Hunter One trigger was definitely made as a non-selective. I have one on a .410 that fires the left barrel first and has the trigger in the center position. Apparently, you could order the gun with a non-selective trigger for either barrel first. This gun does not have an external provision for a selector, but I don't remember what the inside looks like and surely don't remember a "selector spring". You might post this question on the LC Smith Forum and someone there might have an answer for you.

Angels fear to tread the innerds of Hunter One-Triggers and very few smiths will tackle them. Two more who will, and can fix them:

The only difference between the Hunter One-Triggers is that there is no selector switch for the other. The are built internally the same.
The right barrel is fired first and then the left barrel (unless ordered different).

Jerald, there are only 3 springs for a Hunter One-Trigger, trigger spring, spur lever spring and the weight spring, which is a coil spring.

I have never seen a non-selcetive Hunter One-Trigger so I cannot say for sure why it is there, but if the second barrel does not work, that would answer your question.
It could be made, just have to find the right thickness spring steel and get a dimension from the broken one. Feeler stock would work for it.

It is DEFINITELY not the same, there is no selector slide, and the trigger plate itself is different, no notch.
From looking at your picture it looks like the trigger is set up for the second barrel, spur lever is on the other side of notched post.
I belive that you don't need the spring as there is no place for it to catch on the trigger housing. Look at notch in mine and where the spring would fall. Yours doesn't have the notch.

One other question, does you trigger fit in the left side of the slot in the trigger plate housing. (if it were double triggers, where is it?)
When looking at your pictures the trigger is in a different location than in my picture.

Agreed, mine is a non-selector trigger.

........." the trigger plate itself is different, no notch."

Do you mean there is no slot (notch) for the selector switch to slide thru'?

"From looking at your picture it looks like the trigger is set up for the second barrel, spur lever is on the other side of notched post."

Is switching from rt. to lt. bb'l something I could have inadvertantly done to it? I have not disassembled it other than remove the safety stud and screw.

"I believe that you don't need the spring as there is no place for it to catch on the trigger housing. Look at notch in mine and where the spring would fall. Yours doesn't have the notch."

Are you speaking of the stud on the rt. side? OH, now I see the hook attached to the selector, there is no stud in the firing plate?

"One other question, does your trigger fit in the left side of the slot in the trigger plate housing. (if it were double triggers, where is it?)"

Only the one slot.

"When looking at your pictures the trigger is in a different location than in my picture."

Do you mean side to side or fore/aft?

I have a lot of questions concerning the operation of the trigger. Is there anyway we can communicate by phone?
