if things continue the way they are pretty soon many municipalities will have to do some cuts in public sector like the police force. going to be kinda hard to disarm the public now.

I belong to the NRA, voted for John McCain, I agree with what's being said here but saying it here is preaching to the choir. Seven years ago I was dating woman that had actually been on the Million Mom March with HRC. As we got to know each other she became less afraid of guns. I took her to a Vintagers, she had a great time, so much so that she enrolled in NY's "Becoming an Outdoors Woman" course, went away for a weekend and learned how to shoot rifle & shotgun. She sees things differently now. This is how things are changed, by convincing the undecided, one at a time. Venting here may feel good but doesn't really change anything. The energy that's going into these posts would be better directed towards a forum such as http://theobamaforum.com or The NY Times Forums .Take the fight to the people that need convincing. Go find a liberal and start a dialogue, with respect and rationality. Remember, these are public forums, open for the world to see. Printing things that mention HRC & kneepads in the same paragraph, while probably raising a giggle from the rest of the teenagers in the locker room, does nothing for our credibility. Stick to the facts and be above reproach, right will win.

I like the idea of casually dropping the NRA magazines in waiting rooms.
Hoorah for the suggestion from above.
A few years back in my state when CC came in, a bunch of businesses went ahead posting criminal friendly signs. They're all learning the lessons slowly: either they've been robbed or their alienated customer base is gone and the signs are quietly disappearing. Like so many, I've made it a point to voice my problems with the management and it works, it's not a taboo. The big union grocery store dropped its ban. Our tax guy erased his signs. Small victories.
I've been surprised to discover, contrary to the old feeling, where talking guns, religion and politics were the taboo subjects and the only open topic was the left wing smack talk of compassion... well guess what? I care about safety and so does everyone else (particularly women, like Rob says above). We always imagined that there'd be those grinding their teeth and going tsk tsk tsk in an attempt to shame us at any mention of guns - and if they exist, it's those people who are ashamed of themselves and scared. I am increasingly proud of our younger generations at how they resist and survive the morass of government education and the tyranny it imposes on them, kids may live with it until graduation but they don't accept any of it no more when they finally start growing up into adults. Adulthood comes with the ability to protect your own life and all the younger-than-me people I meet at work and outside end up very eager to learn and talk about guns and everything else. It helps to make the first move and to be a friendly example. Outreach, whooo hooo, the compasionate way.

Bang-on. I've been involved more than 40 years in one way or another with adult education in social and resource development at university and community levels.
Being part of collective action is part of it but best results come from the personally instructive, as RB says, no preaching of piety and cant. Set an example.
Old-time religion doesn't cut it. Friends have qualities we admire. That's how we make new ones. Gentle nudging beats in-your-face every time.
There are no assurances of getting our way. People have ways of showing their appreciation, however, for being treated in a respectfully intelligent way.

Obama's victory is a victory for the hysterical Oprah Winfrey, the mad racist preacher Jeremiah Wright, the mainstream media who abandoned any sense of objectivity long ago and Europeans who despise the U.S.A. largely because they depend on her, comics who claim to be dangerous and fearless but would not dare attack genuinely powerful special interest groups...........A victory for Obama-worshippers everywhere, like the guy above burning the guns.....A victory for the cult of the cult......This man Obama has done little with his life but has written about his achievements as if he had found the cure for cancer in between winning a marathon and building a nuclear reactor with his teeth........Victory for STYLE over substance, hyperbole over history and plain old B.S. over reality !!!!!.........
A victory for Hollywood, the most dysfunctional community in the world.......Victory for Streisand, Spielberg, Soros and Sarandon....Victory for those who prefer welfare to will and interference to independence....For those who settle for group thinking and herd mentality rather than those who fight for individual initiative and the right to be out of step with current political fashion...!!!!
Victory for persons who are no friend of our freedoms.....He and HIS PEOPLE have already stated that media has to be CONTROLLED so as to be balanced...without realizing the extraordinary irony within that statement....Like most Liberal zealots, the Obama worshippers constantly speak of Fox and Limbaugh, when the vast bulk of T.V. stations and papers are drastically liberal and anti-conservative......Senior Democrat Chuck Schumer said that just as porno should be censored, so should talk radio !!!....In other words, one of the few free and open means of popular expression may well be suppressed and ruined by the dim-wits who EVEN IN TRIUMPH cannot tolerate any criticism or opposition !!!!.......A victory for those who think the state is better qualified to raise children within the family, for those who prefer teacher's unions to teaching and for those who are naively convinced that if the U.S.A. is sufficiently weak towards it's enemies, WAR AND TERROR WILL DISSOLVE as quickly as the tears on the face of a leftist celebrity....!!!! A Victory for social democracy even after most of Europe has come to the painful conclusion that social democracy leads to mediocrity, failure, unemployment, inflation, higher taxes and economic stagnation.....A Victory for intrusive lawyers, banal sentimentalists, social extremists and urban snobs.....!!!
THANK YOU NEW YORK, CALIFORNIA, ILLINOIS, MASS, AND the rest of
New England and the LIBERAL DIM-WITS..........

Rob, your credibility with the anti gun crowd went out the window when you bought your first gun. Great works of literature won't change the gun grabbers mind. So, what the heck eh!

Lowell, I don't need credibility with the anti gun crowd, I only need credibility with everyone else.
