Hi all, well I just got my Skeet's bore gauge, it's the dial type not the digital. Anyway, I'm slow, and the instructions are not the best.
Can someone walk me thru using this gauage step by step. Starting with zeroing.

If it is for 12 ga., use the ring(.700) and slip it over the ball bearings while trying to keep it even on them. Set the dial to zero. Insert into muzzle as far as you can go, usually about 11 1/2". Read dial now, if 12 ga. should be +.025-.032. That would be .700 + .025-.032 or .725-.732 for bore size. If doing this on a double barrel do the same for the other side. Then insert gage and set dial to zero and read choke size coming out. Readings will be minus (-). Example coming out dial reads -.039, so .039 from bore size of .729 = .690 or full choke.

Thanks David, ok, I think I have it. Let me get this part straight, once the gauge is in the bore, reset to zero to read choke?
Here's what I get on one bbl as an example (the choke is supposed to be Improved Mod.):
I get .025 when the gauge is in the bbl. This would be a bore of .725
If I reset to zero in the bbl I get .072 at the muzzle
If I don't reset to zero I get .096 at the muzzle
So what am I doing wrong? At what point with this gauge will I get a choke measurement?

Greg, I don't bother with setting the gauge to 0 when it is in the barrel, just subtract the muzzle measurement from the bore measurement to get the choke constriction. With the measurements you have bore is .725, muzzle is .696, choke is .029. David's method is handy when you are trying to find the beginning of the choke.

Greg, when you are zeroing your gauge, Keep moving the gauge ring till the needle is in the lowest position. It changes with temps.

Greg, did he talk to you about using the same gauge for 16's? Same process as for the 12, except instead of .700 +, your reading for a 16 will be .600 + whatever the dial reads.
