My 20 gauge Stevens 5100 is marked "Ranger 101.6" on one side with a small "5100" on the other. It has checkered forend and stock with twin ivory beads. No serial number. Great little gun.

Gentlemen, look at the first pic showing side view of the frame. Nota Bene; the positiopn of those two cross pins through the frame. The rear pin sits higher than the forward one. Every Stevens 5100, 511, 311, Fox B etc I ever saw had the rear pin lower than the forward pin. Looks like the Stevens 315 to me. Betcha if you pull the stock it will have spring loaded strikers with no hammers. I had one of these once labeled Central Arms Co. It shot well enough, but had uncheckered hardwood with a walnut stain & weighed right at 7lbs in a 20ga. Traded it on something more desirable.

2-piper.........what about the serial number? Especally the signfcance of the X.
What ya'll think of the overall condition? I got it for less than 4. Prolly paid a little much, but I think it has plenty condition and they don't make'm any more.

Battle; I have absolutely no idea about the SN, or the X. Everything I ever bought, there was always someone who could have bought it cheaper. Where else can you get a solid 20ga for near that price? If mine had been fitted with real walnut I may well have kept it. I carried it on a few hunts & shot well with it.

Don't worry about the price. You already bought it and the money is gone. What remains is the gun and the good times it has in store for you. I paid for my Fulton and wondered the same thing for about...1/2 hr. I've since found many in worse condition for more money and some for less in better shape. My cost was 'fair' from what I can surmize. I've already hunted the Fulton and enjoyed it. Like Miller said, there's always someone ready to tell you they wouldn't pay that much, how much they think it's worth. But they weren't buying today and they don't own your gun and they'll not enjoy your gun.

There are those who have to feel that they "stole" a purchase to enjoy it; others who just think "Well, I paid what it was worth TO ME." I've always been one of the latter. Under four for a solid 20ga with a little history seems fair to me; betcha you get more than that amount of enjoyment out of it!
The SN is a mystery on a Stevens gun of that age. It's a Ranger so I assume it was sold by Sears Roebuck; could they have specified serial numbers appear on the guns? Seems unlikely they'd have gone to the trouble.
