No, Texan style just would not work. One has to blend in, not stick out. Tatty Barbour, whangers (leg protectors, like chaps)flat hat, (a ratter), and green wellies). No jeans unless you are under 17. If you want to be accepted, wear what they wear as a sign of respect It is said that when the Squire bought a new shooting suit of Harris Tweeds he would get the Head Keeper to wear then for a couple of seasons to get the "new look" out of them. Otherwise Himself might be taken as a new poser, or Texan l guess. A green cowboy hat just would not do it. Mike

nice pics, but will you pleeeese stop dressing up like an englishman! show some "texan style" which i know you can emulate. i would skip cowboy boots but it would be nice to see some woolrich and native string style tie in there. Lemme see. The sweater, longjohns, and hat are German. The shirt, tie, pants, belt, sox, and boots are USA. The gloves are Italian. That leaves only the coat to be English. I don't have to "emulate" Texas style. I lived there long enough to do it naturally.

Nice photos Rocketman, I'm glad you felt welcome and enjoyed the shooting.
BTW: he did pretty well with a 20-bore Dougall hammer gun and my old Thompson 12-bore. Those birds on teh wind are harder than most people expect!

Rural America has been broken-up in many pieces today, but it is huge when compared to the English country side. It is the gamekeeping that is the difference - buck fever is the best example of Americans shooting out the genes in our herds. We could have wild bird populations, but the auto-loader mindset made sure we didn't.

Good Morning Gentlemen and Ladies, OK, where are the blaze orange hunting hats ???? Where are the SAFETY SHOOTING GLASSES ???? What possible excuse would any shooter have for NOT wearing SAFETY SHOOTING GLASSES and a BLAZE ORANGE HAT on a hunt like this ??? Good SAFE Shooting To You All, Jent P Mitchell III

We don't need blaze orange because we don't shoot each other.
The stats show virtually no shooting accidents during the season on UK shoots. I agree that safety glasses are probably sensible as a precaution - some wear them. I confess I do not.
Good safe shooting practices are the key - Amen to that Mr Mitchell!

These are some of the differences I spoke of. I wear poly-carb lenses all the time. A number of shooters did not wear eye gear. Nobody wore orange. Our hosts have been doing this sort of shooting for a long time, so they likely know what they are doing; their safety record seems to indicate so. I got some very polite, but equally firm, instruction in the do's and the don't's.
Anyone uncomfortable without orange and in the presence of a "nip" has the option to not go. Remember, shooting here would make you a paying guest, not a sole client (lot of difference in cost).

You are very welcome to wear orange if you like - nobody would object.
My girlfriend has a rather fetching cashmere scarf from Hermes that I often steal for the day - Hermes orange is not so different to Blaze afterall!
Looking at the wide range of apparel on display in Rocketman's photos, I doubt many people with a closet full of shooting gear would look out of place unless they really tried hard.

With shooters in a set position for the drives, blaze orange doesn't seem necessary. Wouldn't be a bad idea for the beaters though. Clothes -- wear whatever you like! Congratulations on a great shoot.
