Although I am somewhat of a writer with 25+ stories in issues of Gray's Sporting Journal, technical writing is not my bag ---but I bet Larry Brown could do a bangup job for Shooting Sportsman by penning a piece on hardware store doubles. I'd like to see that done as nicely as his piece there on Ithaca economy doubles. What about it, Larry? Chopperlump

If there is indeed a 410 Nitro for sale I am interested in Photos, description, and price.

Steve I knew nothing of it. From the looks of it and of course your reputation, I'm sure it is a good solid gun. With a 15" LOP it would fit me fine also. I will be putting up a couple of guns on Gunbroker in the next few days so if I move one of them I hope be the first one to say "SOLD" to you. Wish me luck.

My first double would not be called a typical hardware store gun, but I had a Winchester Model 24 that was left for dead AT a hardware store. Bought it for $80 cash, which was equivalent to many, many meals for a starving college student. Completely devoid of any blue and the wood was so beat up that I never needed checkering to grip it. The Stevens 311 was too expensive at the time - he wanted $125 for it. I had to buy shells so I went for the lower priced model, but that 311 was in good shape.

There is something about the utilitarian double that oozes American heritage. Simple, rugged, and with a purpose. My $0.02.
