I was going to post last week about how ridiculously hot it had been here - 3 x 45C days in a row; I thought it a little too off topic, so didn't.
Then we had another 44-45C day with a hot wind, and some unspeakably depraved specimens decided to light fires.
We are presently up to 135 perished, about 1,000 homes gone, and probably something approaching 1,000,000 acres burned, and whole regions are still innaccesible - so more will be found, sadly. Whole towns - and their inhabitants - have been turned to ash.
We live in a bushfire prone part of the world, but this is the worst of all.
This is completely off topic, I know, but please spare a thought or a prayer.

Horrible news of the fires and the depravity of those who set them. Have friends there. . . somewhere - haven't heard from them yet. Hoping it doesn't get worse. Prayers to you and all there.

Have been keeping your country in my thoughts & prayers. I am a member of another board (non gun related) which has several members from Australia. One of them from the Melbourne area has been keeping us informed of conditions there. I understand the entire area has now been declared a "Crime Scene" as it is thought the fires were intentionally set. I am afraid the punishment I would find suitable for one commiting such an act would be considered "Cruel & Unusual" by our constitution.

As one who lives in the American South West; I am very aware of just how tragic these types of fires can be. Hopefully it will turn out better than it seems at this point.

The horror of some human depravity just escapes the vocabulary. I am greatly saddened to hear of the situation there from the fires and cannot imagine it any less traumatic than experiences in times of war. I can only pray that you and yours remain safe and out of harm's way and that the fires cede or are quelled quickly. My heart aches for all those affected by them.

Watching the news made me wonder how those down under were making out. Sorry for the great loss of property and life. A brick wall and speeding bullet should meet those who set any fire when it cost property or life in my book. Will keep you in our prayers and thoughts.
