Hi Guy's,
I have a friend who is going to buy a new sxs and is going to buy either the Franchi or S&W and asked me what I thought of them so I thought I would ask you guy's which one would be the better gun?
Thanks: Frank

Your friend should read up on the features of each gun to make a decision. The two are very different. The highlander, for example has no selection of barrels with it's single trigger, but weighs less than the Gold. The Gold has selection and ejectors. There are enough differences that a clear choice can be made depending on how the gun will be used and the features wanted for that use.

I've looked at both and shot the S&W, it would be my choice.

I would also go with the S&W. I have never been a fan of non selecting single trigger double barrels. It defeats the entire purpose of shooting a double barrel. Also if your friend is new to side by sides he will likely like an ejector model better. A lot of people who are not used to extractors don't like them due to they have to think about extracting shells when they are not used to it. Also the type of hunting will dictate if ejectors are better. If you are shooting and need quick reloads, the ejector is the way to go. You can always learn to catch the shells so they are not laying all over the ground. On older guns they can be a pain if they break, but on a new gun you should not have to worry about it for a very long time. From what I have seen, they both are well built, but in my opinion I think the S&W clearly wins out due to the selective barrel feature, and ejectors.

Can't comment on which one to pick, but the only time I have ever used the bbl selector is gunning waterfowl. With upland, even with a bbl selector on my wthby, it's just plain faster to shoot thru the I/C bbl to get to the Full tube.

And if the bird is unlucky enough to run into a 7 1/2 pellet from the first shot, my Small Munsterlander Pointer never lets a hit pat/timberdoodle/pheasant get away.....
