I wrote this on the "Dan Cooper" thread. I think it bears repeating here:

"I have a grown son that my wife and I spend many hours each week laughingly discussing his foibles and screw-ups but let one our siblings mention any of his flaws to us and the fight is on."

When a board member from another country criticizes the USA on this board it grates on my nerves. I feel a deep instinctive urge to defend my country's action and reputation - about the same as when one of my siblings or my wife's siblings mention some flaw of my son. I don't think our out-of-country members realize what a visceral reaction many of us are feeling when they criticize our country here.

Now I have many conversations with my countrymen criticizing this or that about my country or it's actions. But I don't do it here.

There are many places to criticize the USA and it's actions on the internet. There is also the "Misfires" section of this BBS if you just have to do it here.

Best,

Mike
