The Fox BSE was introduced in the 1966 catalogue and remained in the line to the end in 1987. From 1966 to 79 they had impressed checkering, and in 1980 they got cut checkering.

If it happened to be an early one (before '68), it would have have a date code stamped just behind the hinge on the bottom plate of the gun; but I see you gave a serial number, so it would have been made after the 1968 Gun Control Act...Geo

Pilger,

When I was 16 I bought a new Savage Fox B with 24" barrels and stamped checkering. It was my first SxS and accounted for many rabbits, squirrels, woodchucks, grouse and even a couple pheasants during my teenage years in Potter County Pennsylvania. That Fox B has long been replaced by LC Smiths, Parkers and other "fine" SxS's. Funny, with all those fine guns I now own some 30+ years since shooting the Fox B, I still remember that one fondly. Enjoy your Fox BSE as it is a "fine" gun.
