I recently purchased this Miroku Model 500 referenced in another post. These pics really don't come close to doing the gun justice.

I am looking for any info anybody might have re: age, etc. It is 98%, 12 ga. choked IC/FULL with 28" barrels. Compared to some I have seen on the web it is a little unusual. Most I have seen have had blued receivers. This one has case colored receiver with border engraving. It has a banner on both sides of the receiver which says, "Model 500". On the botom it has Miroku over B. C. over Model 500 engraved. Checkering is poin ted diamonds not flat. Triggers are blued instead of the gold I have seen on most. It has a solid rib marked "B. C. Miroku Firearms Mfg. Co., Kochi, Japan". Pushbutton forend release. Brass bead front site. Nothing unusual on the flats, a couple of proof marks, choke designation and "Made in Japan". Serial no. is 184561. It is an extractor gun and someone added a Decellerator pad. It almost looks unfired and uncarried.

Any info you could add would be helpful. Someone posted on another sight that he bought a model 500 new in '65 with a 200,00 serial number-don't know how accurate that is. Just trying to get a handle on the old girls age before we consummate the marriage.

Thanks,

Bill

Buy it. It's a great gun. I have a 20 gauge I bought in the 70's and never had a problem with it.

I wish I could help you as well. I have a Supreme and I would someday like to find a 500 as nice as this one. It sure looks nice! Love the color case hardening, checkering and DT. Nice!

Looks like maybe a little oil soaking in the head of the stock, but other than that, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

"I recently purchased this Miroku Model 500 referenced in another post."

It's mine.....all mine.

I looked at what looks like oil at the head but it appears it might just be a section of darker grain as it's consistent on both sides- hard to tell. I might pull it apart and try the whiting trick.

Here's a link to an article by Chuck Hawks on the Miroku 500. I have one and it's my favorite SXS.

I agree, it does look like there is oil in the head. I don't think it will be hard to remove the oil. But it will help the gun if you can remove it.

I have two Daly/Miroku 500's with '500' in the banner on the sides of the receivers. Ser. numbers are l94xxx and 185xxx.

I also have a Daly/Miroku 500 but 'Daly 500' is marked on top of the left barrel, a very narrow banner with nothing inside but engraving around the banner is on the sides of the receiver. Ser. number 456xxx, which is in the range of other straight Miroku's I've seen. I think this gun was made a straight Miroku but possibly used to make a Daly order. All three have blued receivers.

Don't remember how, but I have the 456xxx as 1967. Miroku is on the floor plates of all.

Odd, the way Miroku mixed things up.
