Kieth,

Check the reviews on this one, it has a very high ISO setting, 2000, which allows you to take pics in low light without flash, a very desirable trait...and it's fool proof, I can hand it to anyone and they become good photographers. Check out the reviews here:

Also, here's a special price of $79.00 on them, way less than I paid.

Keith,

Leica has a newer 10 (corrected) megapixel model point and shoot out, the D-Lux 4. It costs $700 or so after a $150 rebate. I use and have been pleased with the earlier 10 mp Leica D-Lux 3.

Two caveats for good pictures: do NOT push the sensitivity if you can help it. Use 100 or 200 ASA equivalent or noise increases, a key difference between these p&s and the digital slr. This should not be a problem for macro photography where light is usually better controlled. Second, you must learn how to use the Adobe Photoshop software that comes with the camera (mine had Photoshop Elements 4). You may have to go to Adobe and download a patch for the D-Lux 4 to ensure the best editing results with the digital RAW images the camera can take.

Regards, Tim

I think just about any of the new cameras are nice and do a good job. The more you pay, the more bells and whistles you get. I have a Fujifilm S3100 and it is really a nice camera. Just shop around and you'll find a nice one. Good luck.

Keith, Consumer Reports just came out with their ratings on new cameras (March issue). Their pick in the Compact catagory is the Canon PowerShot A590 IS. It is an 8 meg camera with a street price of $140. Weighs in at 8 ounces and has a 4x optical zoom. Battery life is estimated at 450 pictures, which is excellent. The image stabilization is worth every penny--especially with a small camera.

The highest rated subcompact camera is the Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS ELPH. It too is 8 meg and street price is $180. Has a 3x optical zoom and weighs 5 ounces. The image stabilization feature is a near necessity for subcompacts. Battery life estimated to be 240 shots.

Good luck!

Jim, I don't have anymore pics of the Piotti, it belongs to a gentleman who hired me to catalog his collection. It is a 20ga with 28" barrels. Best-JB

I have been posting pictures on the internet since 1995. I have 2 cameras, one is a 9 MP, the other is a 3 MP. At the time I bought the 3 mp is was top of the line. I still use it instead of the 9 MP as you can only get a certain amout of resolutions on the web, no matter what as the monitor will now show it after a certain amount. I would have to look up that resolution. When I have used the 9 MP, even on lowest settings the file becomes too large. So with the 3 MP. the file is about 57-75 MP. Some website prefer and request files in this range for posting as it takes up less space on there server and it down loads to the viewer faster. Since I post alot of pictures this is important.

Thanks,

John Boyd

Ken Rockwell is a down to business kinda guy. I've followed his website for quite a while now. He's a good source that you can beleive.

Give some thought to all of your potential uses. Make a list in the order of priority of importance to you. Look for a camera that meets those needs.

Example:
shirt pocket sized
Macro function
Long telephoto function
waterproof

What you may find is that some things like waterproof and long telephoto may not be available in a shirt pocket sized camera. So some compromise may be in order. But until you know what you want to do with it, all the cameras start to look the same. After you buy it, shortcomings may become frustratingly apparent, if you didn't expect them.
