I believe this gun has Killed a couple of Whitetails here in Michigan. It Handles currant Factory ammo fine. I would not load hot loads.
As for the .45-70 in & of its self if you have a Ruger #1 in .45-70, you can Hot load Almost to .458 win Levels! My Ruger is a bit abusive at these loadings.!! But I would like everyone to Remember the .45-70 IS the Cartridge That the experts claim Killed something like 80 percent of the Buffalo. most of them shot anywhere from 100 to 700 yards or more. They Say Billy Dixon shot a Indian War chief at almost a Mile. That was witnessed & measured & I believe the books say he did it with a.45-90 wich isn't much of a step up.
please don't sell the .45-70 short I have hade mine for 8 yrs now & have NO intensions of ever giving it up.
