Don't be so quick to demote the very best work of the very best stockers to being no more than 'warm and fuzzies'.
The UK is full of time-served professional stockers and I still select the man I consider right for each job - a complicted job like bar-in wood Purdey hammer gun for example I would send to only one or two people.
Not because nobody else could do the job but because doing it, doing it well and doing it exactly right are different things.
The layman often cannot see the difference but that is why they use soemone who can to do the work or get the work done. the trade is full of guns with re-stocks that look good if you don't know what it should be like and which then need passing off to the unsuspecting or re-working.
