How about this scenario, a customer shopping for a new weapon stops in at Purdey's and or Boss or Scott or Dickson or any of the fine makers requesting that a gun be built to their specifications, i.e., length of pull, drop at heel, at comb, any cast off, etc., etc, and of course our fine shop man questions the customer asking "what are you going to be doing with your new bespoke weapon"
Oh I'm planning a trip to the Dark Continent to hunt animals that can kill you in a blink of an eye and a lot easier then you can kill them!!! Oh expresses our fine shop man then you may need the 'Best' weapon we can build since you're putting your life on the line for this little vacation of yours.
That would be wonderful says our customer.
Africa is dangerous now but no where near how dangerous it was 150 years ago. Show me a book written during that period and not conjecture or modern interpretations of some one's opinion, show me an actual diary where a hunter went into Africa in around 1850ish and didn't use an English 'Best' gun in some way or fashion as either his go-to weapon or as a back up and I'll believe that there are guns out there that are as good as an English built sidelock.
