How about a pic of ANY you have ever killed JoE? I guess it would be a waste of space to show what little you could come up with to take a picture of! binko btw - you should try a Darne, it might improve your shooting. Those "boat anchors" you got, get a little heavy to carry in the field you know, and affect your shooting.

Some of you blokes need to pipe down. 'tis most unseemly.
Rigby made some excellent guns - some even comparable to Boss's best, but each gun must be evaluated on its merits, whereas Boss, famously, only put their name on best guns. RG

The best gun trade became the rage by the start of the 1900s, at this time a quality standard was in place, the quality of the 1980s best made guns were all over the map. At this golden age of gunmaking, there were many firms who could whip one up for ya. Ones that come to mind were Atkin, Beesley and Grant to name a few.

"--- at this time a quality standard was in place --- "
Can you elaborate? I've never seen anything but some very subjective statements about as to quality of a "best" gun.

Bingo I could bog this forum down with pictures of just turkeys alone....
What you have is about a 5 or 6 thousand dollar H&H unless you find another sucker....I've got several "boat" anchors that could easily out class it.
There'e an old saying on here..."don't buy a gun on name alone".
I love you too Lefewsil....about like a fwench terd.

How about this scenario, a customer shopping for a new weapon stops in at Purdey's and or Boss or Scott or Dickson or any of the fine makers requesting that a gun be built to their specifications, i.e., length of pull, drop at heel, at comb, any cast off, etc., etc, and of course our fine shop man questions the customer asking "what are you going to be doing with your new bespoke weapon"
Oh I'm planning a trip to the Dark Continent to hunt animals that can kill you in a blink of an eye and a lot easier then you can kill them!!! Oh expresses our fine shop man then you may need the 'Best' weapon we can build since you're putting your life on the line for this little vacation of yours. That would be wonderful says our customer.
Africa is dangerous now but no where near how dangerous it was 150 years ago. Show me a book written during that period and not conjecture or modern interpretations of some one's opinion, show me an actual diary where a hunter went into Africa in around 1850ish and didn't use an English 'Best' gun in some way or fashion as either his go-to weapon or as a back up and I'll believe that there are guns out there that are as good as an English built sidelock.

Thanks Brian, I have two, 1 was actually my first gun, bought used in 1954 for $125.00...not for sale at any price! This gun is remarkable, it's still very tight after a steady diet of high brass and magnum fodder. It's been sunk a couple of times in the marsh below Gueydan, Louisiana, when I stepped in a hole and went over my head, duck hunting. Back then I was a poor kid that loved duck hunting, and we had to walk the marsh, so, if you missed a mud-lump, you, and everything you had, got wet. Mud boats and heated blinds for me today, please!
