I've been asked by a fella to post pics of his W&C Scott & Son SN 51316 which he believes to be 1893. Is it a Monte Carlo B? I recall C. J. Opacak recently posted pics of a beautiful Monte Carlo. Thanks all.

Nice but not 'Best' Three Iron 'Oxford'

The 1891 catalogue shows the Monte Carlo with crystal indicator and damascus barrels, but no pigeon or grade "B." The 1914 catalogue shows the Monte Carlo "B" with steel barrels and pigeon, but no crystal indicator. So, your gun is likely around 1900. That seems right for the serial, but I can't get closer than that without a serial dating list. Nice gun!!

The mystery here is that according to Crawford and Whatly the Monte Carlo"B" was made in two grades. The 1891 catalogue confirms this calling one a "better finish" How can one tell what the "better finish" is.

According to what's published the 5100 serial #'s were for the 1893 guns, but I believe there are no books available from that time period. If anyone has any info. on these documents please post it.
Meanwhile,if your gun is any different from the two guns shown here, please post a picture,or if not a pict a description of the gun
thanks

Justin, S/N's dates from A&N guns are available and can be correlated with loop numbers of the A&N.

The Gun Report, dated November 1985, contains a five page article on the Scott Monte Carlo, by John A. Crawford. This article states that guns bearing serial numbers in the 5000 and 5100 range were made in 1893.
For many years I owned Scott Monte Carlo,B serial # 51173 , this gun was identical to the gun pictured in this post.

A&N = Army and Navy. Their records are at the Univ of Glasgow and are often purchased by A&N gun owners for a fair research price. Many of these guns were Scott built ala the loop serial number, not the A&N number on the trigger guard grip extension. This gives pretty good serial vs date ranges.
