go to http://www.americangunllc.com/ This is actually McGowan Rifle company venturing into making highwalls. They sell kit guns, barreled actions and complete guns. Even though they don't list this caliber, they agreed to accept my order for a barreled action with pistol grip, fited with a lightweight 26" half round/ half octagon barrel in .30-40 Krag. I don't know about delivery time but when I get it I'll report on it here. They are also in the process of developing a scaled-down version they call a Mini action. It looks more like a small Highwall than a Low Wall.

Do your self a favor and don't send any more than a 25% deposit.
I've been full-time in the gun business for more than 30 years and the greatest likelyhood of disappointment in that whole time has been ordering a new rifle action from new action makers.

I have no knowledge of this company in particular, (except they have been promising the 223 mini action on AR forum for more than a year) but do note that the action shown is a flat side, octagon top, the least desirable in my opinion, and the barrel contour doesn't look like anything I've even seen before. When J.D Steele has one in hand to evaluate for us it will be safe to think about ordering.

I may get flamed for this... but I've seen, and been disappointed so many times...
And Vol please do keep us posted on any activity, or lack of...thanks!

No flame from me, I called them a few weeks ago and wanted to order a high-wall action in the white without barrel. I did not want the octagon top which is a copy of the Winchester early and weaker action. I also wanted a pistol grip with SST and was told none of these things were offered at that time.

Does anyone know what kind of steel these are made from, I did not ask that when I called?

I will look forward to reports on the rifles when folk have them in hand.

there has been some discussion that they are made from 4140. But this is third or fourth hand, so add a large lump of salt.

Amen to that. How many times in the last 30 or 40 years has a someone tried to resurrect a popular single shot and never got anywhere to speak of. Hell, even Colt couldn't get the Sharps to really take off.Not to mention the various reincarnations of the Mauser and the model 70 Winchester.Does anyone know if Dave Noreen is still making his version of the 70?I really wanted one set up for the .22 Hornet, but was told there was a 3 year wait.Looked really neat in the brochure that I received from him.

I tried buying just the action also. No deal. But they did accept an order for a pistol grip lower tang action with a half round / half octagon barrel in .30-40 Krag. They didn't require a deposit, so if they don't come through, there is no loss on my part.

By the way, Ballard has an original fixture for bending lower tangs for pistol grip. I had a Winder musket bent and it is really a nice feature. I trust they took it with them to Michigan. Brrrr.

In a perfect world we could pick up the phone and order a Ballard, Sharps or Winchester action for our next pet project. Maybe the market is just not there for them. I'll look for a rifle to get the action I need like always. At one time I had several actions, I just had no idea that someday they would get so hard to find.

Michael I believe most of the fun is hunting for stuff. Then getting it all together like yoo want it. Yes it is nice to be able to buy a much needed part sometimes. But if it gets like ordering a Pizza. I will have to find a new hobby.JMO.
But diffrent strokes for diffrent people. Whitey
