I just received some parts back that I had sent to Don Menck at Color Case Company. They were unfinished just as I sent them. Apparently Don is facing some serious medical issues and is now out of business. Best wishes for his recovery. Suggestions on who I should contact for Color Hardening? Thanks Jim Westberg

Jim, You could try Classic Guns Inc, PO Box 367, 606 Gould Street, Beecher. IL 60401. Doug Turnbull of Turnbull Restorations has a very good reputation I understand. (Can't locate his address). You'll have to contact them for prices and lead times. Or, you could try and do it yourself, there's plenty of good info on how to do it here:- http://www.marlin-collectors.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=3732Well worth looking at just for the pictures. I can highly recommend Wyoming Amory in Cody WY, I have visited their shop and they are very professional in what they are doing their work, Keith personally showed me the whole process of color case hardening and wow what beautiful colors, send me a private mail and I will mail you some pictures of the process (Charcoal).

You could also try Wyoming Armory. They are a bunch of guys that used to build and color guns for Ballard Rifle Company before the outfit packed up and moved to Michigan. 307-527-4570 Here is a picture of their shop - stole it from another site. Mr. Westberg:
I too use Classic. The quality of the work has always been excellent and turn around time is very short. Mr. Gillette has gone way out of his way to help when I needed it. I am definitely a member of his fan club.

I've seen a couple of rifles done by Wyoming Armory and would recommend them as well. The few of mine that were CC were done by Don Menck, sorry to hear of his problems. This one by Don, not a very good picture, I'll have to take some more of this rifle.

And I've been working with Doug Turnbull for most of two decades. His turn-around has always been excellent, you can talk with him about how hard you want it and he varies the colors to what is appropriate to the type of gun. Doug has more experience bone charcoal case hardening than anyone else in the country. Doug also offers the best commercial charcoal bluing I'm aware of. All mentioned would be good folks to do business with. I'm also sorry to hear about Don, he's done some great coloring for me as well.
