I'm doing a class on doubleguns at a Hunting show. I wanted a handout for the class. What books do you reccomend. Example: Macintosh's Finest Gun in the World

Thanks for your help

This American double gun craze started with Peter H. Johnson's book Parker - America's Finest Shotgun, in 1961. A second book on Parkers came out in 1974, The Parker Gun - An Immortal American Classic by Larry L. Baer. Baer put out a second volume in 1976. The L.C. Smith got a book by Col. Brophy in 1977. In 1980 Baer's two volumes were combined in a single book The Parker Gun. A general book on American doubles was Michael McIntosh's The Best Shotguns Ever Made in America in 1981. Lefever: Guns of Lasting Fame by Robert W. (Bob) Elliot and Jim Cobb came out in 1986. The American Single Barrel Trap Gun by Frank Conley came out in 1989. McIntosh expanded on his theme in 1989 with Best Guns. In 1990 we got Winchester's Finest - The Model 21 by Ned Schwing. Next up was The Ithaca Gun Company - From the Beginning by Walter C. Snyder in 1991. 1992 brought us A.H. Fox - The Finest Gun in the World by Michael McIntosh. In 1996 we got Remington Double Shotguns by Charles G. Semmer. Ed Muderlak's book Parker Guns the "Old Reliable" came out in 1997. In 1998 we got the first volume of The Parker Story by Gunther, Mullens, Parker, Price and Cote'. Walter Snyder enlarged and expanded his Ithaca book with a second edition in 1999. The second volume of The Parker Story was copyrighted in 2000. The two volumes of The Parker Story is the magnum opus of American double gun books. In 2001 Robert W. Elliot expanded on the earlier Lefever book with Uncle Dan Lefever - Master Gunmaker. In 2006 we got John Houchins' L.C. Smith "The Legend Live". And, most recently we have Ed MuderlaK's new Parker Guns, Shooting Flying and the American Experience.

Resercher,

I should have known you would be the definitive source. When are you going to write a book? I'd be writing one on doubles right now, if I had your information.

Thanks for this and all the other information you've doled out in the past. I'm just going to copy and paste this into my handout if you don't mind.

Best, Dick

Being editor of the A.H. Fox Collectors Association, Inc.'s newsletter is enough. Between The Gun Report, The Canadian Journal Arms Collecting, and The Double Gun Journal, I've pretty much said all I have to say.
