Jim,

Good to see you here. I was surprised about a month ago when I stopped by your shop on lunch...it was gone.

Roger at metals joining told me you retired. I always admired the work you where doing in the shop. It was the only place Ive ever seen a real gunsmith at work.

It looks like your keeping busy!

Harry,

Same to you.... And I presume you're right there - I sometimes even wonder as to whether they used any plans at all when making these actions. FWIW, I do know of someone who used to make a few copies of the Field and still has all the tooling for it. Don't know as to whether he made any plans, but I do know he reverse-engineered his action from an original one. The guy lives in SA, and the only occasion I had to purchase on of these, I stupidly let it go :-(
Still, he says he does intend to resume production - when he's retired.

Mike:

It seems a lot of rook rifles were bored to .410 or relined to .22 rf. I suspect it might have as much to do with practicality as with gun laws, although the latter is certainly a player. It could well be that with a growing population a .22 or .410 would be a more practical firearm than the larger cartridges such as the .360.

The good news is that you get a great rifle to restore as you see fit. The proverbial Silver Lining. Best of luck on the project! They really are wonderful little rifles.
