I asked him that, and the response was "Guilty". Too bad his web site was trashed by the spammers. He seems to have given up on the web.

Looks like my rant did open up some very intriguing doors, eh?
I have a few comments & questions: I have to look at publishing issue with a mercinary view because I long ago decided to make my living doing exactly what I wanted, and I know at times I am terribly selfish with that viewpoint. I'd sure hate to have to get a job at age 57 with the kind of background I have, (smile.)

One of my uninspiring hobbies is copyright and contract law and I have a good friend who is an attorney with that specialty (and collects Colts) so if anyone has any questions in that realm I can probably help. ALL my manuscripts are marked "First North American Serial Rights Only" at the top, although that provide little shelter these days. As soon as they are published, the copyrights revert to the author.

How is Dowegiac pronounced by the locals?

How-to books are tremendously inspiring to those that want to Do (unfortunately few these days despite the levels of enthusiasm) but I have found that there are way more folks who would rather know How-it-was-done.
Also, for those who have written them, How-to's are a real PITA, witness the Stock Staining post...ya just can't give enough...

THANKS, Mike and Pete for the electronic perspective, I'm much more in whitey's camp, I love books, as a child always hoped I could write one, and have several out of print gun books that could finance a winter vacation (which you may see come to pass. Anyone need a copy of The Story Of Merwin, Hulbert & Co. Firearms?)

Brent, what breed is your wife's dog? Has it been spayed? I see definate long-term potential.

Back to mercinary, I try to make about 20-25% of my annual income from writing sourses. It has a few distinct advantages in my situation; little overhead or travel, few folks to deal with, few ancilary hassles like shipping & receiving, I greatly enjoy photography, and - don't tell Anyone - I actually get paid decently for magazine stories... not enough mind you, but decently. Also, I'm now set-up as a shipping clerk with all materials at hand.
(! For ordering info check out the For Sale on this sight!)

Thanks again guys, I'm off to the Bozeman gun show tomorrow and the Christmas Bird Count on Sunday! (Forecast high temp for Sunday is -2, low -16!!!)
Best,
Steve

Steve that dog is a Chekloslovakian German Shepherd from Montana. Right out in your neck of the woods as a matter of fact. Mission Valley I believe. I'll sell you some DNA for cloning or we could swap for some stock work

But, MY dogs are like your worst enemy - they never eat books
I'll

Brent

Christmas Bird Count here on Saturday. forecast to be about 70 deg. Unfortunately I'm on call and will have to see what I can see in the back yard and out the hosptial window. It's been so warm the ducks haven't really come down but the winged rats, snow geese, are here in thousands.
