If I were a betting man I'd say that Ithaca is as original as it gets,....you have to look at more than just the colours to judge the originality of a gun's finish

Look at the NID on Pg 81 of Walt's book--- those colors on Mike's gun aren't even close.

Actually Ed the Torch uses some type of chemical process which gives the metal the "weak runny fake" look......the wood inletting he does is the worst deal going...look close at some of his re-stocked guns...as he comments about "Ed Flanders" the master gunsmith !! HA----he has ruined a lot of guns....

Oh come on, the gun on pg. 81 was made prior to WWII and has seen some field use and more than occasional oily rag swipe. Luvly vintage CC plus some patina of age and use if you ask me. That gun looked pretty darn close to Mikeys piece at the time it was made.
Yep, the piece on page 81 is factory original finish, but some nimrod carried it by the action as indicated by finish wear on the trigger plate and the barrels adjacent to standing breech.

Yeh, Eds CC finish reminds me of patina taken on by piece of blue cheese when well past if best used by date.

I'll bet SLY is delighted to read that he has been replaced as the most sleazy seller on the gun auction sites!

I just love this quote from the description of ed's gun: "CASE COLORS TASTEFULLY RESTORED."

I did not know that acetylene torching as a means of restoring case colors on a gun was considered "tasteful".

I feel sorry for any person that buys his guns.
