The beautiful fall color of the leaves takes your eyes from the flamming colors of the gun.

The forend on that first gun looks like it might have gotten real hot (i.e.burned) or is it the way the light is hitting it.

Looks very Turnbullish. My guess is professionally refreshed by Turnbull Resorations. Close examination of wood finish would of couse tell the story.

That is definetly not Ed's. The pins would have been blue from the torch. I would say Turnbull also.

It is a shame that so many people go screw up old guns. Most cases they look pretty good in the first place. A 100 yr old gun should have some character.
What seperates the excellent smiths from the average ones the ability to re-do a gun without making it look re-done.

Ed does junk work, hides the bad parts of each gun he sells...does not show the sad condition of most of his wrecks....not an honest type of guy..!!! He is definitely the "flame".......sells to the newby's mainly, who don't know any better..

Unlike Winnie 21 redo it's kinda hard to "bake" 100 year ole' action in scorching pile of bones and make it look vintage, eh? Even when pro outfit does it one still gets new lookin' gun that's actually 100 years old.

The first picture of the first Parker shows a pin through the side panel of the buttstock. I cannot see it in any others. The stock finish looks like it was put on over partially cleaned and sanded wood... blotchy. The forend wood does not look scorched, but more like it was very filthy and oil soaked, especially near the iron. This is difficult, but not impossible to clean. I'm certainly no "professional", but I've done better on a couple forends that looked like ebony.

Nope, that is professional redo that exanctly matches original Ithaca CCs. The colors are simply to vivid and stock finish from what I can make out to "new" looking to be Ithaca factory original. I'm clueless as to where the CC on that 1915 Parker came from, but it does remind me of certain moldy piece of food. In that top dark pic it looks like amateur torch job.

If I were a betting man I'd say that Ithaca is as original as it gets,....you have to look at more than just the colours to judge the originality of a gun's finish

Look at the NID on Pg 81 of Walt's book--- those colors on Mike's gun aren't even close.

Actually Ed the Torch uses some type of chemical process which gives the metal the "weak runny fake" look......the wood inletting he does is the worst deal going...look close at some of his re-stocked guns...as he comments about "Ed Flanders" the master gunsmith !! HA----he has ruined a lot of guns....

Oh come on, the gun on pg. 81 was made prior to WWII and has seen some field use and more than occasional oily rag swipe. Luvly vintage CC plus some patina of age and use if you ask me. That gun looked pretty darn close to Mikeys piece at the time it was made. Yep, the piece on page 81 is factory original finish, but some nimrod carried it by the action as indicated by finish wear on the trigger plate and the barrels adjacent to standing breech.

Yeh, Eds CC finish reminds me of patina taken on by piece of blue cheese when well past if best used by date.

I'll bet SLY is delighted to read that he has been replaced as the most sleazy seller on the gun auction sites!

I just love this quote from the description of ed's gun: "CASE COLORS TASTEFULLY RESTORED." I did not know that acetylene torching as a means of restoring case colors on a gun was considered "tasteful". I feel sorry for any person that buys his guns.
