I sure wouldn't want to confuse boundless enthusiasm with sales figures, the amount of work involved in turning magazine stories into books, the actual cost of publishing a book, the hassles with marketing self-published works, or dealing with American publishing corporations. Nor would I want to confuse the job titles of gunmaker, author, and shipping clerk.
I really do appreciate the enthusiasm of hobbyists and enjoy the appearance of success in publishing endeavors, but all you need for the truth is to count the number of gun books that go into a second printing above 2000, or count the number of gun magazines that have gone out of business in the past 15 years, or ask any author of any gun book if he made any real money, trusts his publisher or imagines ever getting a royalty check for more than $300. Accurate Rifle, Custom Rifle Gazette, Petersen's Shotguns, Rifle Shooter; I've written for at least three other success stories.
Everyones got their own explanation of why, and notion of what's possible and we wouldn't want to confuse them with reality.
They 'ought to publish a book on
..... I'm sure it would be a hit!
Now for those who are really serious, step right up and invest in a second printing of Custom Rifles in Black & White, I'm down to the last 45 copies of the 2000 originally published in 1999.Or, if you'd like to invest in a Specialty Gun Book Publishing Company, (SGBPC Inc.) I have another Custom Rifles (in Color) book
completely written and photographed! And I have a friend here abouts that is working on his own second edition of a book I hope you ALL have a copy of! (Just ask the price of color printing.)

(Personally, I'll never read another Calfee article until he writes them in English, All tongue in cheek, and all true :>))
