Joe,
are you sure that's a hi-wall and not just an oddly shaped rock or chunk of iron ore? I think I have a piece of flint that looks like Elvis somewhere in the garden.

Joe, I love that low wall, but the high wall is awesome. BTW, we are debating the most "best" singleshot .22 action on the WSU forum. Some folks seem to think Ballard, some think low wall and some (believe it or not) think Martini. Brent IMO the desired result kinda determines which action is 'best'. For looks I'll take the Winchester every time, for offhand and tradition it's the Ballard while for pure accuracy my vote would go to the Martini. I like squirrel hunting & plinking with beautiful rifles and don't shoot from my hind legs unless I have to, so I personally tend to build & shoot low walls if we're talking RFs. It's probably significant that I own several low walls and several Cadets but no Ballards. Part of the reason is expense, I'd want a DST Ballard and their prices have risen from the merely unaffordable well up into the sublimely ridiculous range IMO. So I guess I'll stick with the El Cheapo type actions that I can upgrade by the sweat of my brow rather than the depth of my wallet (G). I like Steve and his attitude & expertise as well as the WSU organization just fine but the WSU site itself leaves me cold, too much emphasis on Schuetzen-only and not enough on single shot rifles as a whole or gunsmithing them. I like this site here, so far at least, IMO it's the best single shot forum I know about. The solid information and verifiable experiences that have been related knowledgeably & courteously here have provided a very pleasant change from the dogmatic attitudes and uninformed opinions sometimes displayed so pugnaciously elsewhere. Regards, Joe

Joe, I know what you mean about the cost of Ballards actions. They are completely ridiculous. Maybe GM should stop making trucks and make Ballards instead...
BTW, I sent you an email about any actions you might have. Not sure if it got lost or not. But if you have a low wall action, I may have a buyer for you.

Got your email, sorry no orphan action, I've let Whitey Hanson talk me out of all of mine. I do have enough parts to make a very nice complete action except no receiver. Ditto for a high wall, already have all parts except for the receiver. It's sad that wall receivers are so scarce and their internal parts are so relatively plentiful while Martini Cadet receivers seem to be all around but Cadet internal action parts are scarce. Bah.
I also have some wall SST parts, and didn't you want a spare RF firing pin at one time? Got one of those now too if you still want it, email me. Regards, Joe

I'm still upset that the folks who do make the Ballard would not sell me one . I think there is a market out there for just the actions and I hope some enterprising person or company will do just that.

JD, I let myself get confused and traded off my last good low-wall slick side trigger tang (plain trigger straight grip) leaving me with only a pretty funky one for my good receiver that I am building (with the Dell fitted Green Mtn bbl in .25-20 SS.) I could probably find something worthwhile to swap if you had such a beast.

Michael, you might ask Wyoming Armory if they have one lying around. They had a DST highwall that needed a home this summer, and I bought it...

Whitey, parts are always good to have. If nothing else, they sometimes make good trading stock when mere money won't tempt the owner of some treasure that you covet.
Froggie, I'll check in my goodie box but I believe that my spare tangs are the thick ones for high walls. AAMOF I seem to remember sending you my last good thin tang a (short) while back....have ya ever considered gettin' some adult supervision for that CRS? (BG) I myself have begun keeping a notebook with everything written down.
Now if I could just remember where I left the notebook...
If you'll send me a photo of your ratty tang then I'll see if I can use it on a rifle I'm building and can possibly substitute for the better tang that's on the rifle now. No sense wasting an original-appearing tang on a rifle that's going to be altered anyway. Regards, Joe

Blame it on that silver-tongued devil, Whitey... I had to put together a complete low-wall for a trade with him, and in my rush to do so opened the wrong box and took apart one of the "complete sets" I had been hoarding, that one that I just knew I had to keep for this project. Actually I don't have CRS, it's the even more frustrating "Half Timer's Disorder." The problem with HTD is that you never know which half of the time your brain might be working!! I'll see if I can get a digital camera working (they seem to be on pre-Holiday strike right now) and send you the requested picture.
