Joe, I love that low wall, but the high wall is awesome. BTW, we are debating the most "best" singleshot .22 action on the WSU forum. Some folks seem to think Ballard, some think low wall and some (believe it or not) think Martini.

IMO the desired result kinda determines which action is 'best'. For looks I'll take the Winchester every time, for offhand and tradition it's the Ballard while for pure accuracy my vote would go to the Martini. I like squirrel hunting & plinking with beautiful rifles and don't shoot from my hind legs unless I have to, so I personally tend to build & shoot low walls if we're talking RFs.
It's probably significant that I own several low walls and several Cadets but no Ballards. Part of the reason is expense, I'd want a DST Ballard and their prices have risen from the merely unaffordable well up into the sublimely ridiculous range IMO. So I guess I'll stick with the El Cheapo type actions that I can upgrade by the sweat of my brow rather than the depth of my wallet (G).
I like Steve and his attitude & expertise as well as the WSU organization just fine but the WSU site itself leaves me cold, too much emphasis on Schuetzen-only and not enough on single shot rifles as a whole or gunsmithing them. I like this site here, so far at least, IMO it's the best single shot forum I know about. The solid information and verifiable experiences that have been related knowledgeably & courteously here have provided a
very pleasant change from the dogmatic attitudes and uninformed opinions sometimes displayed so pugnaciously elsewhere.
Regards, Joe
