The second annual Lady's and Gents Sporting Sale is now on line at http://www.charltonhallauctions.com The sale is Saturday, December 13th. beginning at 10:00 AM EST. There will be a pre-auction event Friday evening at the auction house with catered hors-de-ouvres & spirits. Diggory Hadoke will be on hand to discuss guns and answer questions. The event is free but space is very limited. If you want to attend you can e-mail Carroll at: info@charltonhallauctions.com or me at palmettotreasure@aol.com & I will send your name to them. There is a beautiful pair of Purdeys, a gorgeous pair of Churchill pinless sidelocks with extra barrels, a Stephen Grant, a Linder Daly, a Boswell, a couple of Churchill boxlocks, several Greeners, several Parkers, another Purdey, Brownings, L.C. Smiths and a bunch more. Raimey and McPhail are coming. Let me know if you are coming as soon as possible. Best Regards, George

George L.:
Did McPhail change his mind on going to Louisville or is he just attending Friday? Yeah, the Prussian Diamond Daly, and from the pics there looks to be a couple Treff action drillings with one's rifle barrel bored to 0.410" and reproved(British?) along with the E. Blancke 12 bore on the C.H. Daw patent/action. A diverse lot for sure.
Kind Regards,
Raimey rse

George, we have reservations to come Fri. and Sat., if my work allows.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

I emailed a bunch of questions about a Westley Richards boxlock. Never heard back from the folks. It's amazing what you can leave out of a gun description, too. This is the gun: http://www.charltonhallauctions.com/asp/...0&saletype=Questions: Bbls: Any pitting? Any dents, dings, or bulges? Bbl wall & bore measurements? What was it originally proofed for? Wood: Any splits or cracks? Has it been refinished? Has the checkering been recut? Overall: Ejectors or extractors? Do all the serial #s match? Is the gun tight and on the face? Anything broken or not working - triggers, cocking mechanism, worn sears (light trigger pulls) safety, etc? Thanks OWD

Auction catalogues generally restrict themselves to describing what is visible and apparent.
I will be in the viewing room on the Thursday and Friday and will happily talk you through the gun on the phone with it in my hand if you want to call Charlton Hall and ask for me.
best,
DH

Obsessed With Doubles- t of questions- now if the late Charlton Heston were still involved instead of his brother-in-law Charlton Hall-you'd get the answers in spades. Looks a bit like a LeFever top bolt from the foto-Wonder how the high end gun market will hold up if the Senate and the House tell the "gurus" of GM-dumb to go "blow it out their barracks bags" as they should. Ain't no man worth $22million annual salary- with a golden 'chute and a platinum D-bag to contain it in- HALO everybody HALO- we have a el biggo wake-up call a coming. I know of some Smith Grade 2 and 2E's believe most are 12- DT, not sure on grips-maybe a 16-if you want, I'll do you a "recee run" and let you know. Jawja- on my mind-and my name ain't Oglethorpe neither- sommers near Columbus -SW sector..

It was interesting to see Christies in November struggle a bit but sell some notable pieces of good, honest kit.
Bonham's made some good results on December 3rd. Good guns are selling strongly. Very expensive collector, 'exhibition', vanity projects covered with gold and bling and asking prices in the £50,000 - £200,000+++ bracket are getting left alone. Tatty stuff of mediocre quality is not selling fast.

The Carolina Vintagers have their Eighth Annual Fall Shoot at Hunting Creek Preserves in Harmony, NC also on Dec 13th. Shoot begins at 10:00am, so, unfortunately, none of us will be able to make it. We'll have to try and avoid a scheduling conflict next year. It would have made a nice outing from Charlotte to Columbia for the day.
