With about 1000 pounds of lead handy, I am starting to wonder about the possibility. I have a 20' drop area which I think was historically used. I imagine the proper screens would not be cost prohibitive. Anyone know how to start or who sells what is needed?

Unless that mythical 500% tax on ammo becomes status quo I don't think so.

No, but I would like to try it. Wonder what it would cost to set up a simple system? I do know a couple of people who make what the muzzleloading community calls "Swan Shot". These are about the size of a #5 and are teardrop shaped. I do cast round balls for my flintlocks: .32cal, .40cal, .45cal, .50cal, .60cal and .65cal. Would like to set up making my own shot, too, if it isn't too expensive!

What does it mean when it says, "Chilled Shot"? Is there chilled air blowing through the drop chamber?

Used to make my own shot about ten years ago.Used a home made rig which was a copy of the Littleton principle. It worked fantastically well, had to experiment with the holes which the molten lead ran through but it wasn't a big problem at all. I used to drop my shot into water containing washing up liquid which seemed to make better shot for some reason ( water surface tension?)
