Terry,
I know that L.C. Smith would install whatever pad was available at that time of purchase.

Hawkins Model 25 Recoil Pad, The Cushion Pad Co., Sioux Falls, S.D. First offered early 1920s. Other after-market pads of that era include the Jostam Sponge Rubber and the NoShoc.

Hawkins "No. 12 Gauge" Model 32

Galazan is now selling a reproduction of the No Shoc pad. This is a wonderful development since reproduction Hawkins and Silver pads are not identical to the originals, where the No Shoc may be very close to identical to the original. The problem with the repro Hawkins is that it is not the model that we are looking for to replace the original with heart shaped perforations.

Thanks for the replies. The reason for the question is that I am
likely buying a Parker VH with 32" barrels, straight hand stock and with a Hawkins pad.The gun dates to 1904 so I'm now assuming that the pad is somewhat aftermarket, but vintage material, and if in usable condition should be retained even if the wood requires refinishing etc.?? I assume this is the original model with heart-shaped perforations?

Terry, about the only red rubber pad available in 1904 was the Silver. The Funke's pad was also available, but I cannot, for the moment, remember what it looked like.
